Job Summary
Responsible for organizing and managing all activities related to assessing the adequacy of AEP's transmission network to meet the individual and collective demands of its customers in a reliable, cost effective and environmentally compatible manner, for formulating plans to construct new transmission facilities, for supporting the asset management function, for assuring effective coordination with the RTO planning organizations, for comparing the merits of operating procedures relative to new construction and providing related information to Transmission Operations, for assessing and recommending transmission planning and reliability criteria, for ensuring Transmission reliability standards compliance as it relates to Transmission Planning, and for participating in the activities of the regional reliability councils and other industry groups in matters dealing with transmission network planning.

Job Description
What You'll do:
Contribute to the formulation of Transmission's goals and strategies; organize and manage the activities of Transmission Planning to align its work plan in support of those goals and strategies.
Organize and manage Transmission Planning's activities to assure that system reliability goals and criteria are met in providing transmission service to diverse customers, including the assigned OPCo(s), Generation, IPPs, munis, coops, large industrials, and power marketers.
Manage the planning processes by which analyses are carried out and recommendations are made regarding the need for system improvements, balancing decisions regarding capital investments vs. maintenance expenditures and operating procedures vs. system reinforcements. Obtain the approvals for system improvements.
Assure the quality and timeliness of system analysis support as needed for the formulation of corporate and business unit policies, strategies and communications.
Ensure Transmission reliability standards compliance, and participate in the activities of NERC, the regional reliability councils, RTOs and other industry groups in matters dealing with interconnected network analysis and planning, in order to represent AEP's interests and constructively influence their activities.
Establish and maintain communications and liaison with other groups within Transmission and the company as a whole as required to achieve corporate and business unit objectives at a Regional level.
Manage and lead the identification, justification, development and scoping of the capital portfolio for the assigned Region.
Work closely with the Regional Teams including Asset Renewal, Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Distribution, and Construction Management to ensure online completion of Transmission targets.
What We're Looking For:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET accredited (or equivalent) university or college.
Experience:
Minimum of eight (8) years' related engineering experience. Three (3) years' management/supervisory experience is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Professional Engineer designation preferred.
Other Must Haves:
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and present ideas clearly both orally and in writing, including making presentations and recommendations to senior management and external audiences.
Demonstrated leadership ability.
