We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Nurse Practitioner to become a member of J.D. McCarty Center's pediatric medical team serving children with developmental disabilities. This practitioner would work semi-autonomously to provide quality care across a variety of clinical settings working closely with physicians, healthcare teams, and other providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to improving the health and well-being of our pediatric patients.
Hours Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Salary starting at $105,000.00
Basic Purpose:
This position is assigned responsibilities to assist with patient care on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The position will serve as the main licensed medical professional for the ABA outpatient clinic, conduct the medical evaluation component of the therapeutic services screenings, and examine and treat inpatients as requested by the hospital's attending physicians. The hospital's physician will act as the consulting physician for supervisory purposes for the selected candidate.
Typical Job Functions:
Will serve as the primary medical professional for the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) outpatient clinic to include examining patients for illness or injury. Will conduct evaluations in the event of physical holds/restraint and or the completion of an incident report. Will provide first aid and prepare and distribute medications to ABA outpatients as needed and allowed by hospital policies and procedures.
Will complete all required and necessary documentation to include charting, H&P's, incident reports, etc. within a timely manner and in compliance with hospital, local, state, and federal guidelines.
Will attend and participate in staffing meetings, medical records committee, safety committee, infection control/pharmacy and therapeutics meetings, admission review committee, and any other meetings deemed necessary by the Executive Leadership Team of the hospital, as scheduled on a weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly basis.
Will attend and participate in all annual Medical Dental Staff meetings and monthly Executive Committee meetings.
Will perform comprehensive physical examinations and secure health histories for the History & Physical component of Therapeutic Services Screenings as directed. Will participate on the Admission Review Committee to assist with determining approval status for an inpatient evaluation.
Will complete comprehensive physical assessments, treat inpatients, and prescribe pharmaceuticals as requested by attending physicians and in accordance with all hospital, local, state, and federal guidelines.
Will serve as an on-call provider for both inpatient and camper issues as directed.
Will coordinate and provide necessary orientation, education, and training to all staff and patient families as directed.
Will identify needs for policies and procedures by observing relevant conditions/practices, gathering appropriate information, and consulting and collaborating with other affected entities. Will review existing policies and procedures on an annual basis for accuracy and will make and communicate any required changes.
Will develop and recommend practice standards, evaluate care outcomes, suggest strategies to improve program delivery, and participate in quality assurance activities which pertain to assigned duties.
Will participate as a member of the mobile screening team as directed.
Will maintain a professional appearance and attitude and will establish and maintain effective working relationships with other hospital departments.

Required Education & Experience:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a valid Oklahoma license as a Registered Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, recognition as a certified Advanced Practice Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, and three years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Note: Approval for prescriptive authority requires current licensure in Oklahoma as a Registered Nurse and as a Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) within 30 calendars days of the entry-on-duty date. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse must hold a graduate degree at an advanced practice level or a post-master's certificate at an advanced practice level if the master's degree is in nursing, in order to be eligible for initial application for prescriptive authority.
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner has to have completed a minimum of six thousand two hundred forty (6,240) of postgraduate clinical practice hours with prescriptive authority supervised by a physician.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and chemistry; of medical diagnosis techniques, methods and procedures; of the theory, principles and practices of nursing or health care delivery systems; of ambulatory care; of methods and procedures of laboratory and X-ray and other diagnosis techniques; of pharmaceutical agents, their usage and contraindications; of minor surgical procedures and techniques; of safety and safety practices; and of medical management techniques.
Ability is required to conduct physical examinations and health assessments; to provide advanced specialized nursing care; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to instruct and counsel clients; to interview and obtain medical information; to develop therapeutic programs; to apply emergency and first aid measures; to exercise sound, independent judgment; to analyze complex situations and adopt appropriate courses of action; to successfully diagnose and treat patients; to plan and/or provide educational training to other nursing and allied health providers, and community organizations and groups; and to provide instruction and counseling to individuals, families and groups in preventive or restorative health care.
About J.D. McCarty Center:
J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acres campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
