Job Title: Phlebotomist IIJob Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, properly explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, and demonstrating techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

Responsibilities

Conduct blood draws and label specimens accurately.

Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.

Collect and store specimens following established procedures.

Clearly explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection.

Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

Understand and execute physicians' orders correctly.

Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.

Place samples in appropriate collection containers and label them accurately.

Follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.

Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attend annual department training sessions.

Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

High School Diploma or GED.

2-4 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with pediatric draws is preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Work Environment

The position's home base is either Itasca or Tinley Park, depending on the candidate's residence. The role involves floating between various locations including Chicago, Tinley Park, Blue Island, Des Plaines, Evanston, Arlington Heights, Bloomingdale, Chicago Heights, and West Chicago. Working hours are between 7 am to 9 pm from Monday to Friday, with scheduled shifts within these hours. Every Saturday, hours vary and are scheduled accordingly. Mileage reimbursement is offered.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
