A Brief Summary of This Position:
Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the Lead I will manage finished and raw material inventory for the Shipping Department. This position is responsible for all leadership activities relating to the coordination, organization and control of assembled product and small parts in relation to loading product to be transported to the customer.
Shift: Days M-F 7am-3pm
Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $23.64 (Step 1) + $.75 per hour Lead allowance
Essential Functions:
Oversee and delegate daily tasks to shipping associates
Maintain the daily schedule board and the status board
Ensure employees check equipment, perform daily preventative maintenance and report any unsafe conditions to Valmont supervision
Ensure teams are focused on SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost); driving towards team achievement in each of these areas
Lead lean initiatives in the department utilizing lean tools such as the SQDC process, problem solving, 5S, etc.
Supervise employee duties to ensure inventory is relieved properly with transactions such as staging, issuing and receiving
Supervising ship papers to identify product to be loaded as required
Communicate with staging crew to identify problems, concerns, and successes
Communicate with shipping employees about loaded product matters
Use company IFS and Discover Systems to complete job duties
Ensure housekeeping is maintained
Maintain accurate inventories
Monitor and process rejects, ship-papers, packers, pick-lists and load sheets to ensure accuracy and prompt delivery of product to designated areas
Operate overhead crane, forklift, straddle truck and shag truck when needed
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Prior Leadership/Supervision experience
High School Diploma
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Ability to become a certified forklift operator
Ability to become proficient in operating a straddle truck
Must complete Valmont overhead crane training
Ability to perform basic math: addition, subtraction, decimals and fractions
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Post-secondary education
Experience using Valmont's IFS & Discover computer system
Experience reading ship papers to identify product needed for loading
Experience performing inventory cycle counts and correcting discrepancies
Certified forklift operator
Certified overhead crane operator
Certified straddle truck operator
Logistics experience inspecting completed loads/deliveries
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
2 years of supervisory or management experience in a logistics specific role
Training in Lean Manufacturing processes
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection. There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time. Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
