Job Descriptions:
SUMMARY
Provides instruction/education to Stark DD personnel, personnel that contract with Stark DD and direct and indirect nursing services for individuals with developmental disabilities (DD). Performs quality assurance audits related to Medication Administration to ensure the health and safety of the individuals served.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Nature of Work and Development of Curriculum, Coordination and Provisions of Training:
Coordination and instruction of regularly scheduled training classes for DODD Personnel Curriculum for Certifications 1, 2, and 3. Serves as Nurse Liaison for staff development concerning Continuing Education Programs and Mandated Education Programs, including but not limited to: Nursing Delegation, DNR, and AHA CPR/FA, New Employee Orientation, various other health and safety trainings for nursing and other DD Personnel. Develops, coordinates and instructs health and safety related education programs, provides other teaching opportunities concordant with the needs of the Agency and according to agreements with the Contract Providers. Maintains compliance with training documentation.
Medication Certification Duties:
Provides ongoing updates of Medication Certification and Nursing Delegation information to Stark DD personnel, and creates CE opportunities for nurses and unlicensed personnel to maintain their medication certification. Provides consultation and direction to Nurses for the interpretation of Laws and Rules concerning Nursing Delegation and for the input of information into the DODD Database. Provides data entry, oversight and quality assurance of the DODD MAIS Database for Stark DD. Maintains compliance with DODD Law and Rule for Trainer Certification requirements. Provides oversight and quality assurance of RNQAs completed per OAC 5123:2-6-07.
Consultation and Interdisciplinary Participation:
Serves as an educational resource person to Stark DD nurses and personnel to disseminate medical/nursing information, and provides opportunities to enhance professional development.
Medical Record Keeping and Maintaining a Caseload when Indicated:
Performs direct clinic services throughout the Agency, as nursing caseload needs dictate, directly or through telecommunication. Completes ancillary referrals when assigned.
Participates in New Employee Orientation and Provides Training On:
CPR and First Aid; Medication Administration by M.A. Certified DD Personnel.
Direct Service:
Assists Privacy Officer to protect confidential information of the individuals served from unauthorized use or disclosure. Maintains proficiency with electronic records and software systems. Maintains regular contact with Stark DD nursing staff and other DD Personnel. Makes contact with outside agencies/resources as needed to meet educational requirements of DD Personnel. Communicates appropriate information, both verbal and written, diplomatically with individuals, parents, and staff on all issues, including those that may be of a sensitive nature in order to ensure continuity of care. Communicates effectively with supervisor and interdisciplinary team. Recognizes unusual threatening conditions, and completes UI/MUI reports as indicated. As an employee of the Stark County Board of DD, the nurse shall comply with all Board policies at all times, and shall demonstrate respect for, support the dignity of, and observe the rights of all individuals served by the Board.
SPECIALIZED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize, prepare and present In-Service Programs to groups of people with various learning skills. Research DODD and OBN rules related to Medication Certification Teaching. Must exhibit flexibility to meet learning needs of all staff in variety of settings and circumstances. Dedication to maintain the ethics of the nursing profession and promotes professional growth. At the direction of and in collaboration with the Director of Early Intervention and Nursing Services, serves as an active participant of special projects at the local and State levels.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Experience in Adult Education/Training. At least one (1) year of experience teaching adult learners. Three (3) to five (5) years of nursing experience, preferably with individuals with DD. Maintains Nurse Trainer Certification, and assists in coordination and staff instruction for Medication Certification courses. Certification to both provide and instruct CPR and First Aid, or willingness to obtain. DODD training for Train the Trainer Program for Medication Administration.

Displays knowledge of and an awareness for the Board's safety and security program and follows established guidelines regarding safety rules, accident reporting, emergency codes, drills, policies, and procedures. Practices Universal precautions as outlined by the Board's Exposure Control Plan. Follow all reporting requirements pertaining to UI/MUI. Adhere to work schedule pertaining to attendance and punctuality. Absenteeism is within acceptable guidelines. Read, write and/or comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patrons, constituents, and other employees of the organization. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply numerical operations and mathematical thinking in order to solve a range of problems in everyday situations. Maintains an appropriate professional appearance and adheres the Board's dress code policy. Ability to read and interpret Practice Standards, Technical Procedures, and Government Standards and Regulations.
Knowledge of: Internet software, Windows, Microsoft systems (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). DD, conditions, and syndromes related to DD and habilitation programs. Nursing process and diagnosis, basic health care and Nursing Practices and Procedures. Various treatment modalities for individuals with DD including categories of medications, such as psychotropic and anticonvulsants. Skills in reviewing clinical work of others according to Professional Standards and Practice Guidelines. Instructional methods and techniques, especially for the adult learner. Use of audiovisual equipment, and computer skills to prepare presentation materials, track classes and coordinate information.
