The Department of Transportation, Engineering District 6-0 invites you to step beyond the confines of the office and immerse yourself in the field as a Transportation Construction Inspector. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will align permit programs with departmental goals by overseeing the organization, direction, planning, and coordination of all related strategic initiatives. Your responsibilities will include assessing customer needs and expectations while adhering to sound management practices. You will conduct field inspections of permitted projects to ensure compliance with permits and departmental regulations, as well as monitor various stages of construction work.
Additionally, you will assist in verifying grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways in collaboration with contractors and surveyors. Your inspections will cover the placement of materials such as concrete and drainage systems, as well as work zone traffic control, backfill compaction, and highway restoration efforts. Engaging with department staff, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public will be essential to ensure the successful administration of these projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an Ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia.
Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
