The Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) is a key strategic leader in the Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP), reporting to the Executive Director. The DFA is responsible for managing financial operations, administrative services, and compliance across BOSP's home office and international centers.
The DFA oversees a ~$20M operating budget, supervises a home-office administrative team, and provides functional guidance to financial administrators across nine global program locations. The role ensures alignment with Stanford's financial, human resources, and operational policies while promoting operational excellence in a globally distributed environment.
In this role, you will:
Direct BOSP's financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and internal controls across domestic and international operations.
Prepare and analyze consolidated financial reports incorporating multi-currency data from BOSP's global centers.
Ensure compliance with Stanford financial policies and international operational standards.
Design and execute an effective system of internal controls for areas of responsibility; establish operational objectives to support BOSP's stewardship of resources.
Work closely with VPUE's operations leadership in the Vice Provost's Office and campus partners in central financial and global offices.
Engage in continuous critical analysis of existing systems and processes; identify need for new systems, and develop and present solutions.
Lead home-office administrative operations, process development, and cross-functional coordination.
Supervise the Senior Accountant, Accountant, and dotted-line oversight to the Financial Administrators at BOSP international centers, offering guidance, training, and policy interpretation.
Oversee IT coordination and procurement at the home office; support integration with global IT systems and vendors.
Manage HR activities for Stanford-based staff, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and professional development.
Collaborate with Stanford Global HR on employment matters for BOSP's international centers.
Promote inclusive, equitable, and compliant HR practices across all program locations.
Lead and collaborate with BOSP senior staff to align financial, HR, and administrative processes across the program.
Contribute to strategic planning, organizational development, and the design, development, and delivery of complex policies and procedures with both short- and long-term impact within BOSP and VPUE.
Collaborate on complex, high-visibility process redesign and innovation projects; develop, implement, and participate in major initiatives.
Advocate for BOSP needs and strategic objectives within university-wide financial, operational, and administrative forums.
Occasionally work evening and weekend hours.
Travel internationally.
Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. Frequently sitting. Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds. Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Master's degree and six years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Advanced financial management and reporting expertise, including knowledge of Oracle or similar enterprise systems.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing administrative and finance staff.
Demonstrated understanding of human resources best practices and international employment issues.
Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
Effective written and verbal communication, including cross-cultural collaboration.
Strong understanding of operational risk and internal control systems.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
Experience in global program administration, particularly in study abroad or international education.
Cultural competence and global fluency across work environments.
Experience with global financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, procurement

The expected pay range for this position is $183,456 - $207,261 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
