Summary The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) in this position serves in Clinical Support Services and provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or care in the community resources. Responsibilities This position provides medical administrative support to one or more outpatient clinics and is an integral member of the clinic team to effectively carry out day to day administrative operations of the clinic. The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) is responsible for accurate appointment management and the coordination of all administrative information between the professional staff, patient, patient caregiver and/or representative. Major Duties: Works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary care delivery model and performs receptionist, customer service, and administrative duties for the proper and timely treatment of patients. Planning, organizing, problem solving, and decision-making. Maintains appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics. Provides administrative support to clinical colleagues in the care of our Nation's Veterans. Utilizes a variety of patient data systems and is responsible for performing scheduling functions including; appointment scheduling/rescheduling, and cancellations, providing reception to incoming and outgoing customers and communication, appointment check in/out, verification of provider orders, recall reminders, manual and electronic data entry, and reviewing and updating patient demographics and insurance verification. Provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Contacts new patients to remind them of their scheduled appointments, calls patients who have not responded to recall reminders and, if necessary, enters note into CPRS and removes them from recall. Calls patients who are high risk for no show off the missed opportunities (MO) report and reminds them of appointments and reschedules if requested. Experience and Education. Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, Education. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care.
