Job Summary
AEP's focus has increased on the importance of quality data, storage processes, and reporting in which the Data Steward/Scientist role is critical. This role supports Data Stewardship and Analysis tasks including data quality metrics, root cause analysis for data discrepancies, and data corrections for the DER Repository as well as Distribution Planning data (CSII, DGP, etc.). The role also supports Regulatory and Internal DER reporting and metrics, scripting and automation activities, and other advanced activities (DER modeling, AMI customer load profiles, time-series analysis, etc.). The role will support the transition of data and implementation of Collibra as an AEP enterprise data governance system.
Position will be full-time in office (New Albany, OH)
Job Description
What You'll Do:
Take the lead role, under minimal supervision, mentors data stewards, performs data stewardship activities and analysis requiring technical knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This role will be responsible, accountable, and authorized to make decisions for a single business data domain by managing data assets, data lineage, data quality, and supporting sound data analysis that rationalizes the applicable data governance strategy.
Responsible for conducting intermediate analysis on various data @types to uncover hidden patterns and correlations to support business and management decisions. This includes data mining, data auditing, aggregation, validation, and reconciliation. Build reports for management as well as conducts basic hypothesis tests (@contextualize basic levels of complexity). Utilizes analytics and statistical software such as SQL, R, Python, Excel, Hadoop, Tableau, SAS, SPSS, and others to perform analysis and interpret data. Create visual dashboards.
DATA GOVERNANCE Strategy & Methodologies: Define, design, develop, operationalize, and coach to support a business data domain specific data governance strategy and methodologies to meet business / functional requirements that enhances and enriches a business data domain's data ecosystem
Roadmap: Design and get approval for a business data domain's data governance roadmap based upon strategic business objectives, existing capabilities / programs. Own one or multiple domain perspectives in defining and continually evolving the data governance roadmap based upon strategic business objectives, existing capabilities/program
DATA QUALITY Policies, Standards & Scope: Design and get approval from the Enterprise Data Governance Council (EDGC) for policies and standards for a business data domain's data-centric activities. Ensure that they are aligned with the Enterprise Data Governance program and leverage applicable Enterprise data standards, governance processes, and overall industry best practices. Accountable for driving a business data domain's acceptance of approved policies and standards. Provide recommendations and supporting documentation for new or proposed data standards, business rules and policies
Trust: Establish and build a culture of trust within the data stewardship office. Educate and encourage stewards to work openly with others and work collaboratively across functions, levels, and departments towards shared business objectives. Teach the value of differences and similarities among people and promote and evangelize a spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility. Hold self and others accountable to the highest ethical standards
Completeness: Identify, define, establish and promote data management SOPs that identify and enhance the completeness of a business data domain's data as per defined scope and priorities
Accuracy: Identify, define, establish and promote data management SOPs that identify and enhance the Accuracy, Consistency, Integrity, Reasonability, Timeliness, Uniqueness, Validity, and Accessibility of a business data domain's data as per defined scope and priorities
DATA PRIVACY & SECURITY - Design the appropriate user access Roles, permissions, and Identity Management access relationships
DATA STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL - Actively participate in, and contribute to, the Data Stewardship Council. Be a pioneer and represent a business data domain in the data stewardship council
Desired Capabilities:
Expert in writing SQL queries to research and analyze data
Advanced capabilities in writing automation scripts in Python and other related programming languages
Experience with data governance tools such as IBM Cloud Pak or Colibra is preferred
Solid understanding of database structures, data management, quality assurance and data flow skills
Advanced quantitative and analytical skills
Experience with data cataloging and data analytics projects preferred
Proficient in creating visual aids using the tools and applications available for a visual representation of data.
Able to develop and present business documents, reports, and training concisely and effectively. Able to read the reactions of an audience and adjust the delivery style to fit the audience.
Demonstrate ability to manage time effectively and efficiently
Show capability of having organizational and planning skills, as well as having an aptitude for accuracy, attention to detail and ability to achieve goals
