The Inventory Control Assistant plays a key role in supporting the
accurate tracking, organization, and reporting of inventory within a
lumber and building materials environment. This position helps ensure
stock levels are properly recorded and reconciled, assists with
inventory movement documentation, and works closely with purchasing,
sales, and yard staff to support operational efficiency. Essential Job
Duties: Assist with maintaining accurate inventory records for all
lumber and building material products. Conduct cycle counts and physical
inventory audits to verify stock accuracy. Investigate and help resolve
inventory discrepancies. Support the receiving process by confirming
deliveries and updating system records accordingly. Collaborate with
yard personnel to ensure proper stock rotation, labeling, and placement.
Communicate inventory levels and availability to purchasing and sales
teams. Monitor for overstock, obsolete, or slow-moving items and report
findings. Ensure proper documentation is maintained for all inventory
transactions. Operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift or
pallet jack), if certified. Perform additional duties as directed by the
Inventory Manager. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: High
school diploma or equivalent; coursework or training in inventory
control, supply chain, or logistics is a plus. 1-3 years of relevant
experience in inventory or materials control, preferably in the lumber
or building materials industry. Proficient with inventory management
systems (e.g., Epicor). Strong organizational skills and attention to
detail. Comfortable with basic math and Microsoft Excel. Able to work
independently and as part of a team. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
and work outdoors in varying weather conditions when needed. Working
knowledge of lumber products, grades, and measurements. Familiarity with
barcode scanning and stock tracking tools. Forklift certification or
willingness to obtain.
