Payroll Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Hopewell, Virginia. In this role, you will play a key part in managing payroll processes, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and maintaining accurate records. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise in payroll systems and accounting within the education sector.

Responsibilities:

Process payroll accurately and on schedule using advanced accounting software systems.

Oversee the administration of 401(k) and RRSP plans, ensuring all contributions and records are properly maintained.

Utilize platforms such as ADP Workforce Now, Ceridian, and Concur to manage payroll and related financial operations.

Perform accrual accounting and ensure proper documentation and tracking of all transactions.

Conduct audits to verify payroll accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Collaborate with HR and finance teams to address payroll-related queries and provide necessary reports.

Monitor and manage time-tracking systems like About Time to ensure accurate payroll inputs.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulations affecting payroll processing.

Assist in the preparation of financial statements and other reports related to payroll functions.

Identify opportunities for process improvements within payroll and accounting operations. Requirements - Proven experience working with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Ceridian, and Concur.

Solid understanding of accounting principles, including accrual accounting and auditing processes.

Familiarity with administering 401(k) and RRSP plans.

Proficiency in using accounting software and time-tracking tools like About Time.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate payroll processing.

Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements related to payroll.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
