Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) is seeking a Technical Trainer to join the Legal Operations Team.

BDS is a public defense office representing low-income New Yorkers in criminal, family, immigration, and civil legal matters. For nearly 30 years, BDS has worked, in and out of court, to protect and uphold the rights of individuals and to change laws and systems that perpetuate injustice and inequality. Our legal expertise work with clients is focused on the intersections of these legal systems that disproportionately impact Black and Brown communities living in poverty.

BDS represents thousands of people each year who have diverse, complex, and multi-faceted legal needs. In addition to a zealous legal defense, our interdisciplinary teams of attorneys, social workers and advocates provide a wide range of legal and advocacy services, including for housing, public benefits, education, and employment. BDS staff work collaboratively and across disciplines to deliver high-quality legal services that serve the people we represent, their families and communities.

BDS is undertaking a multi-year project to implement a Salesforce based Legal Case (Matter) Management System spanning all of the organizations' units and tens of thousands of cases, both new and ongoing. Under the general direction of the Legal Technology Supervisor, the Technical Trainer will be responsible for training on BDS's case management system, document management system, and other legal technology systems.

Responsibilities

Develop tailored training materials and user guides to support the adoption of new and existing features.

Conduct engaging virtual and in-person training sessions for employees at all levels of the organization.

Serve as the go-to expert for the tools, addressing user questions and facilitating knowledge transfer.

Hold drop-in office hours to answer staff questions.

Audit data quality and system usage to identify training needs and monitor effectiveness.

Work with staff and supervisors to better understand the case management system and the importance of data integrity.

Continuously improve training content based on feedback and usage trends.

Additional assignments as needed.

Qualifications

Proven experience as a Technical Trainer.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.

Strong problem-solving mindset.

Understanding of legal services is a plus.

Experience with Salesforce is a plus.

Curiosity and ability to learn new business processes and functions.

Business analysis and functional analysis experience, including requirements gathering and creating/deploying solutions to end users.

Position Information

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. The normal schedule is Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. The position is based at BDS's offices located in Downtown Brooklyn.

There is a salary range of $58,000-70,000, depending upon the applicant's education and experience. For someone who has additional credentials, there is a possibility of pay beyond the maximum. BDS also offers comprehensive benefits including health and dental insurance, short-term disability and life insurance, a 403(b)-retirement plan with employer contribution, pre-tax commuter benefit, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, and above-average vacation, sick, holiday, family, and medical leave policies.
