BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The P CG FIELD SERVICE & COLLECTIONS Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt )
JOB FUNCTION:
Reads electric meters, including demand meters in the field; records readings; compares consumption; observes and reports unusual/irregular conditions. Contacts customers to collect on delinquent accounts, and performs various related field service work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reads kilowatt-hour, reactive kilowatt-hour and indicating demand meters and records readings. Breaks seal on demand meters, resets indicator and reseals meter.
Reads all @types of electrical meters and records readings as required.
Reports improper reading sequence of meters and indicate proper location.
Operates light vehicle and fills automobile fluids as needed.
Provides routine information such as billing period or where payments may be made to customers contacted while reading meters. Refers customers to appropriate customer service personnel for other than routine information.
Contacts customers to discuss and determine reason for non-payment or delinquency and collects on such account, as appropriate.
Determines whereabouts of customers with unpaid or outstanding bills by questioning landlords, employers, neighbors, and others.
Determines responsibility for consumption on inactive accounts and works with occupants to complete a new customer application form, as appropriate.
Contacts/make appointments to meet owners/managers, etc. to either obtain keys/cards, or arrange for access to read meters. Requests for key vault instructions.
Disconnects and reconnects service in accordance with Company rules and customer field work and/or collection orders. Disconnects and reconnects may include removal and installation of meters where necessary.
Collects on delinquent bills and deposits as required.
Reads meters as necessary to furnish complete or corrected billing information.
Reports on unsafe meter conditions and unauthorized usage.
Operates computer terminal to carry out needed responses, reports, charts and correspondence.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
Assists with office work as necessary.
Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Must pass the General Clerical Test (Standardized Test of Verbal, Numerical, and Clerical abilities). The passing score for each of the sections of this test is maintained in a separate listing with copies in the Industrial Relations Department and the Union Office. These passing scores may be adjusted periodically as validation studies are updated.
Must pass the SRA Oral & Written Directions Test.
Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
Must be physically qualified to walk a meter route and lift a 6-foot ladder.
Must have at least 3 years of general office and clerical experience.
