Job Description
The Bronx County District Attorney's Office seeks a seasoned leader with broad experience to serve the diverse community of over 1.4 million Bronx residents and to promote a safer borough by "Pursuing Justice with Integrity." The first-of-its-kind Youth Justice Bureau (YJB), part of the Operations and Budget Division, seeks an attorney with demonstrated litigation, programmatic, and supervisory expertise to serve as Deputy Bureau Chief. Reporting to the Bureau Chief, the Deputy will help oversee Bureau operations and assist in shaping procedures, training, case strategy, prosecution, and programming.
While reporting directly to the Bureau Chief, the Deputy Bureau Chief is expected to exercise sound judgment and operate with appropriate discretion and independence in carrying out day-to-day responsibilities, while maintaining alignment with the Bureau Chief's directives and the mission of the Office. The Deputy Bureau Chief will work with a multidisciplinary team including Assistant District Attorneys, medical, mental health, and social services clinicians, law enforcement partners (including the NYPD and BXDA Detective Investigators), researchers, and professional staff. In this position, the Deputy Bureau Chief will work alongside other bureaus to identify trends related to gang activity, trafficking, and violence. The Deputy Bureau Chief will also assess all felony cases involving young people in the justice system to ensure they are either directed to community-based programs, such as mental health and substance use treatment, when appropriate, or, if necessary, are prosecuted vigorously. Additionally, the Deputy Chief will help oversee the prosecution of serious violent felonies, including training ADAs and professional staff and offering prosecution support. Further, the Deputy Chief will work with the Team to help shape the trajectory of youth-driven crime by assisting in developing and implementing innovative initiatives, identifying and vetting potential resources to assist youth and their families, participating in youth-focused community events, and working with the community to address concerns related to youth justice issues. In addition, the Deputy Chief will help conduct and seek out training opportunities to ensure all Bureau staff understand the unique needs of the adolescent population and how to address those needs. Finally, the Deputy Bureau Chief will maintain a personal caseload featuring high-profile, complex, and sensitive matters and mentor junior attorneys.
The ideal candidate is deeply committed to supporting victims, ensuring public safety, and promoting accountability while empowering youth through transformative programming.
