Description

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our client's team on a contract basis in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in technical accounting, nonprofit or government financial reporting, and familiarity with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, compliance, and ensuring the accuracy of financial data while driving process improvements.

Responsibilities:

Prepare comprehensive financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, in alignment with HUD regulations.

Support the creation of budgets and financial forecasts that align with organizational objectives and funding requirements.

Manage grant and fund accounting processes, ensuring compliance with HUD guidelines and proper tracking of allocations.

Oversee general ledger activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.

Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and coordinate audit preparations with external auditors.

Utilize Abila accounting software to maintain accurate financial records and streamline accounting processes.

Analyze financial data using advanced Excel tools to identify trends and support decision-making.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and enhance financial reporting accuracy.

Monitor adherence to HUD regulations and provide recommendations for maintaining compliance.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.

At least 5 years of accounting experience, with expertise in financial reporting, grant management, and compliance.

Strong proficiency in Abila accounting software and advanced Excel skills.

Extensive knowledge of HUD regulations and fund accounting principles.

Prior experience working within nonprofit organizations or government entities is highly preferred.

Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Excellent communication abilities and the capacity to work independently or within a team.

Proven problem-solving skills and a commitment to maintaining financial accuracy.
