Our client serves over 500 customers across Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, providing essential and reliable packaging that businesses depend on. Position Description: Our client is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to manage the financial operations of our Hatillo plant. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to our financial health and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, cost analysis, and financial reporting, preferably within a manufacturing setting. You will be a key player in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in our financial processes. Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records for the plant, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and accounting standards (GAAP).
Reconcile plant financial statements, bank statements, and accounts on a regular basis.
Prepare tax filings, sales tax returns, ensuring timely compliance.
Cost Accounting and Analysis:
Calculate, track, and report on the cost of materials, labor, overheads, and production processes.
Assist in determining standard costs for manufacturing and production.
Perform variance analysis to identify and investigate discrepancies between actual costs and budgeted costs.
Support product pricing strategies by analyzing cost data and profitability.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the development and management of the plant's annual budget.
Provide cost analysis, forecasting, and financial projections to help the management team make informed decisions.
Monitor budgetary performance and report on deviations, suggesting corrective actions when necessary.
Inventory Management and Cost Control:
Track inventory levels and valuation, ensuring accurate recording of raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods.
Analyze inventory turnover, obsolete items, and supply chain costs to improve financial efficiency.
Work closely with the procurement department to ensure cost-effective purchasing and inventory management.
Administer employee benefits and deductions, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
Financial Process Improvement:
Identify areas for financial process improvement, implementing cost-saving initiatives and increasing efficiency.
Help implement and maintain an effective internal control system within the finance department.
Other Responsibilities:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as production, procurement, and logistics to ensure smooth financial operations.
Assist in the preparation of financial audits and liaise with external auditors as necessary.
Stay updated on financial trends, tax regulations, and manufacturing industry best practices.
Qualifications:
Proven Accounting Experience: Possesses a solid foundation in accounting principles and practices, with a preference for experience gained within a manufacturing environment.
Expertise in Cost Accounting, Budgeting, and Financial Analysis: Demonstrates a strong understanding and practical application of cost accounting methodologies, budget development and management, and comprehensive financial analysis techniques.
Proficiency in Accounting Software: Experienced in utilizing accounting software systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, or industry-specific tools) for efficient financial data management and reporting.
Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills: Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, including the creation and utilization of pivot tables, VLOOKUP functions, and the development of financial models for insightful analysis.
Knowledge of Financial Regulations, Tax Compliance, and Auditing: Possesses a strong understanding of relevant financial regulations, tax compliance requirements (including local Puerto Rican regulations), and auditing procedures.
Exceptional Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Exhibits strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify discrepancies, and develop effective solutions to financial challenges.
Excellent Communication and Collaboration Skills: Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with management, vendors, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
Industry Knowledge and Language Skills: Familiarity with the corrugated fiber packaging industry is highly beneficial, as is bilingualism in Spanish and English to effectively communicate within the local @context.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
