Job SummaryPerforms entry-level building maintenance work. Work involves maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and equipment; operating motorized equipment; custodial work; and grounds maintenance duties. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential TasksPerforms general maintenance and repair work on historic and modern buildings.Performs custodial duties.Performs groundskeeping duties.Performs limited preventative maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, tools, and utility systemsOperates and maintains motorized vehicles and equipment.Performs administrative functions associated with assigned tasks.Enforces security regulations.Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
Other TasksAssists with set-up and staffing for special events.Assists with disposition of records boxes, furniture, and other large items as needed.Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications: Military Crosswalk Information - Veterans, Reservist or Guardsman with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields of: ARMY 49-9071.00 Maintenance and Repair, 49-9099.00 - Marines 003763 - Navy, or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirement may meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
Minimum QualificationsHigh school graduate or GED.Valid drivers license.Preferred QualificationsExperience in construction, maintenance, and repair work.Experience in the use and/or maintenance of various tools and equipment, including hand tools, stationary and motorized equipment.Experience in custodial work.Experience in groundskeeping work.Experience using the Internet.Experience with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office Suite software, including Word and Outlook.
Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures.Skill in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.Ability to perform groundskeeping duties, including use of various @types of lawn equipment.Ability to perform custodial duties, including use of various @types of cleaning equipment.Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, transport a minimum of 300 pounds of material on two-wheel dolly, and climb extension ladder to height of 20 feet.Ability to kneel, lift, carry, push, climb, move between buildings on the Centers campus, and sit or stand for extended periods of time.Ability to haul a trailer using a truck or van.Ability to understand and follow instructions, policies, and procedures.Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.Ability to work independently and to exercise sound judgment.
Environmental/Physical ConditionsNormal office work environment, with regular outside environmental conditions. Will have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with outdoor activities and human contact. Mostly active in nature involving moving, including between buildings; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skill and coordination to safely move heavy items, such as boxes of printed materials, furniture, equipment, or large, fragile items. Regularly ascend/descend ladders and reach above shoulder level to access storage boxes, tools, and equipment. Work involves repetitive motions while operating equipment. Must be able to work extended periods standing and/or riding equipment. Will require working weekends. May require working extended hours and some evenings as needed. Normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Travel will be required to maintain Center properties and deliver/pick-up supplies and equipment. Must have visual acuity to drive. Non-smoking work environment.
Other RequirementsMust pass criminal history check if offered the position.Must work Saturdays, except for the second Saturday of the month, and occasional evening and overtime work.
Reporting RelationshipsReports to the Center Manager. No supervisory responsibility.
