Responsibilities
This role supports a team based in the Pacific Northwest; candidates in that region are preferred for collaboration purposes. However, we welcome qualified applicants from all locations.
The Senior Manager for Data and Analytics will lead and develop a team of data architects and engineers in a transition that brings together our current data architecture and reporting with contemporary cloud technologies, enabling dynamic data storytelling through visualizations and empowering data scientists to mine for insights that help PNNL make better business decisions.
You will leverage your excellent leadership capabilities and collaboration skills to work with laboratory leaders and business partners to advance data and reporting capabilities that support data driven insights across the organization. As the Senior Manager for Data and Analytics, you are uniquely positioned to collaborate across teams that support all major platforms in PNNL's digital workplace in executing a holistic strategy that spans process, governance, analytics, and architecture.
The successful candidate is well-versed in the latest technologies, cloud-based data services, and best practices in the data and analytics space. They will have previous experience in leading data transformations and bringing solutions forward for a diverse range of business problems. They will have a history of motivating, empowering, and growing teams. They will have the skill to assess the data needs of the organization and have demonstrated the ability to develop strategies that lead to powerful and sustainable data and analytics solutions.
The selected individual will mentor existing team members and also be a part of future hiring activities for new team members.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant experience -OR-
MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant experience -OR-
PhD with 3+ year of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to employ an enterprise perspective in delivering data solutions that support cloud, on-premise, and hybrid architectures for application and analytic use.
8+ years managing technical teams with hands-on expertise in Databricks, SQL, and Azure Data services.
Demonstrated success in data-warehouse migrations and establishing robust reporting standards.
Experience with AI/ML frameworks, data pipelines, and skilled in balancing ad hoc work with formal projects.
Expertise with Cloud data architectures and services (i.e., cloud storage @types, analytics tools, big data solutions).
Adept at simplifying complex topics for varied audiences.
Advanced conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, process analysis, and data quality analysis skills using modern tools and techniques.
Excellent ability to bring together a team of data and analytics engineers and architects to execute the strategy.
Knowledge and Experience with complex ETL processes to move and integrate data.

Security, Credentialing, and Eligibility Requirements
In accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, new employees are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
For foreign national candidates:
If you have not resided in the U.S. for three consecutive years, you are not eligible for the PIV credential and instead will need to obtain a favorable Local Site Specific Only (LSSO)risk determination to maintain employment. Once you meet the three-year residency requirement, you will be required to obtain a PIV credential to maintain employment.
Mandatory Requirements
Please be aware that the Department of Energy (DOE) prohibits DOE employees and contractors from having any affiliation with the foreign government of a country DOE has identified as a "country of risk" without explicit approval by DOE and Battelle.
