Full Time position supporting the National Science Foundation (NSF), managed United States Antarctic Program (USAP), as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Facilities Construction Supervisor will be based in the USA and will deploy to any of the 3 USAP Stations when needed. Assists with planning and hiring for projects to ensure Amentum can deliver on project commitments. Supervises and reports on projects happening on-ice. Tasking is based on ASC schedule requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
Maintains accountability for, commitment to, and involvement with personal, co-worker, community, and project safety as a constant priority
Supervise the activities of Facilities Construction Superintendent(s), Construction Coordinators, & Trades personnel.
Conduct interviews, track staffing levels, and provide staffing updates for contract Facilities positions
Interact with ASC Prime Contractor, NSF, military, and other agency officials, both virtually and in person to create plan including accurate schedule, parts and crew size to ensure successful project delivery
Perform material take-offs, project planning, coordination, scheduling, and direct supervision of construction projects/activities
Keeps the Construction Manager, Facilities Maintenance Manager, Facilities Manager and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor(s)/Assistant Supervisor(s) informed of status of project work and other activities and assists in development of project plans and budgets
Manage construction activities, including the work centers, following project plans, specifications, and schedules
Coordinate tasking, labor and materials with Facilities work centers, other departments, and project/construction coordinators
Report project progress in relation to project schedules and updates schedule as needed
Provide QA on various projects to ensure they are completed in accordance with plans
Maintain effective communication between departments and represent department as needed at operational meetings
Assist with ensuring accurate material and labor charge code use, and accurate timecard submittal
Oversee and maintain accurate and thorough documentation of project progress
Accurate and thorough documentation of hours worked, tasking performed, materials used, and processes involved
Advise supervisor of job progress, material/labor requirements, and personnel matters
Accomplish tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications, and diagrams
Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and create or revise SOPs as needed
Perform tasking outdoors in environmentally challenging conditions including wind and extreme cold weather
Perform tasks requiring repeated heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, digging, hauling, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, and squatting
Routinely utilize independent judgment and discretion to identify potential issues and solve problems
Proactively identify any unsafe conditions, hazards, or Code violations and communicate them effectively
Work directly with other departments to plan and complete tasking
Learn and utilize computer-based labor, material, and maintenance tracking applications
May coordinate, supervise, and perform all aspects of field camp construction, maintenance and upgrades, working closely with all trades involved in field camp construction, maintenance and winterization (McMurdo only)
Evaluate labor and material needs for tasking and assign duties to subordinate trades staff as appropriate
Interpret schedules, design drawings, specifications and diagrams to carry out tasking
Routinely inspect work sites and evaluate staff tasking
Responsible for providing timely performance feedback to staff and timely submission of end-of-season evaluations to Human Resources
Works with Human Resources to address conflict or personnel issues as they arise
Handle confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy and with the highest degree of professionalism
Communicate professionally, both orally and in writing, with subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, Quality Assurance procedures, and safety practices
Assist with the ordering of project materials for the department to maintain adequate inventory on station
Occasionally utilize the assistance of other station personnel to complete tasking or assist other trades or departments with their tasking with permission of supervisors.
Comply with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements
Implement and maintain Work Center Safety Program and participate in ASC safety objectives
Perform other duties as required
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
Degree in Construction Management or related discipline or four additional years relevant work experience for a total of eight years' experience if no degree
A minimum of four years construction and maintenance experience including project scheduling and project cost estimating
Two of the four years' experience must be at a supervisor or leadership level with a progressive increase in responsibility supervising craft foremen and crafts persons
Expected Skills and Competencies:
Ability to read design drawings, specifications, and diagrams
Intermediate level computer skills with MS Office Suite experience to include Word, Excel and Outlook
Able and willing to learn and effectively utilize computer-based labor, inventory, and maintenance tracking applications
Proficient in communicating professionally and respectfully, both orally and in writing, internally and externally, via email, radio, phone, in-person
Competent in collaborating and working as a team with other departments
Solid decision-making ability and sound judgment to solve problems safely and effectively
Good organizational and planning skills
Possess the competencies, willingness, and ability to perform the duties of position
Physical and/or Other Requirements :
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold
Must participate in community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
Valid Driver's License issued in the United States

Salary Range: $105,000 - $116,000 annualized
