Hamill has maintained a registered machinist apprenticeship program for over 50 years and is a leader in developing the curriculum to ensure that program graduates have the skills needed to compete in the evolving manufacturing workforce. Upon completion of the Machinist Apprenticeship program, Hamill's Journeyperson Machinists earn at least $23/hour depending on skill set, experience, and other performance measures.

During the apprenticeship, apprentices attend one evening class per week and receive paid in-house, on-the-job training for 4 years. Based upon mechanical and mathematical abilities, students can also test out of one year of the program, thus shortening the education period. Tuition is also paid and upon completion of NIMS projects throughout, multiple pay increases are awarded. At full completion of the machinist apprenticeship program, apprentices receive state-awarded Journeyperson Machinist papers.

We are looking for someone with some technical training, on-the-job experience, or who is mechanically inclined and looking to make a career change.

We are an established company that provides machined products to the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program as well as commercial customers.

All candidates MUST BE United States citizens without dual citizenship.

Summary:

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including computer-controlled machines, to produce precision parts. Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reads and interprets blueprints to plan setup and operation of all @types of machine shop machine tools.

Uses full range of precision measuring and gauging tools to perform inspection from start to finish of job.

Performs repair, rebuilding or overhaul work from blueprints, company manufacturing manuals, written or verbal instructions.

Starts up and shuts down equipment in line with company safety procedures for equipment under power and OSHA requirements. Frequently works with other tradespersons such as electricians, welders, etc.

Makes repair parts if not commercially available or available from company inventory.

Plans setup and operation of typical machine shop machine tools, producing parts to close tolerances and company specifications.

Assists in annual machine preventative maintenance.

Follows Standard Operating Procedure requirements.

Tactile inspection of parts may be required.

Responsible for attending related training and completing all aspects of the NTMA Apprentice Program including NIMS projects.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Some prior technical training is preferred.

Language Ability: Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; able to speak effectively to co-workers.

Math Ability: - Working knowledge of trigonometry and algebra.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses: A fork truck safety training certificate may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop or kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
