ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Roles and Responsibilities
Prepares of a variety of sterile products, in accordance with USP Chapter 797 and follows good manufacturing practices.
Repackages bulk medications into unit-dose packaging.
Demonstrates good working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems (Meditech).
Demonstrates good working knowledge of automated dispensing device (Omnicell).
Ordering and restocking medications and supplies, functions associated with automated dispensing devices, medication order review and order entry.
Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of the importance of inventory control. Orders and restocks items appropriately.
Performs monthly evaluations of all nursing and ancillary units where medications are stocked. Maintains thorough, accurate records of the evaluations and discusses with the pharmacist-in-charge any problems found.
Performs clinical functions as determined by the Pharmacy Director or Pharmacist in charge. These may include filling / checking "cart fills", checking IVs, monitoring clinical reports such as the culture and sensitivity report, anticoagulation report, etc. Other tasks may include drug use evaluations, clinical trend monitoring, and antibiotic usage.
Possesses good communication skills and displays professional attitude when interacting with other disciplines in the hospital.

PATIENT SAFETY

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required Skills Qualifications :

Communication:
Must possess verbal and written skills to communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse group of professional and non-professional members of the health care team, patients and family/significant others. The internship shall be performed under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacy preceptor
Minimum Education
A pharmacy intern shall have completed two years of education in an approved college / school of pharmacy.
Required Licenses
MA license as a Pharmacy Intern.

Physical Demands Light work with occasional heavy lifting, such as cases of IV solutions
Work Environment
Secure area. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals, including oncology agents and anesthetics.
