Sr. Cost Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to join our team in Des Moines, Iowa. This is a long-term contract position that offers the opportunity to play a key role in managing cost accounting processes and driving financial accuracy. Responsibilities:

Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead while ensuring accuracy.

Conduct detailed cost variance analysis, including purchase price, labor efficiency, and usage variances.

Reconcile inventory accounts and address any discrepancies to maintain financial integrity.

Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger to support accurate financial reporting.

Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of general ledger accounts.

Assist with month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely financial reporting.

Partner with operations and supply chain teams to support cost control and reduction initiatives.

Analyze manufacturing and operational data to identify opportunities for improved cost management.

Prepare and maintain audit-ready documentation for both internal and external audits.

Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations. Requirements - Proficiency in cost accounting principles and practices, including cost variance analysis.

Experience working with accounting software systems such as Costpoint, BlackLine, or similar.

Familiarity with DCAA compliance and auditing processes.

Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.

Advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation.

Ability to analyze and interpret manufacturing and operational data for cost management.

Excellent organizational and communication skills to collaborate with various teams.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with relevant experience in detail-oriented tasks.
