Description We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team in Newark, New Jersey. In this Contract-to-permanent role, you will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy of financial records, processing transactions, and supporting the organization's accounting operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate with various departments and contribute to the efficient management of financial processes.

Responsibilities:

Support various departments by providing assistance with financial processes and ensuring compliance with accounting procedures.

Collect, review, and organize data from systems and staff to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Prepare and process payments, including obtaining necessary approvals and making adjustments when required.

Review and analyze financial documentation to verify the accuracy of fund disbursements.

Enter payment data into accounting systems and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.

Implement procedures to review and correct errors in financial transactions, ensuring compliance with established standards.

Generate routine and ad-hoc reports to monitor quality and identify discrepancies in financial data.

Collaborate with the finance team to complete monthly and supplemental check runs efficiently.

Handle portability billing processes, liens, abatements, and repayment agreements.

Maintain accurate databases of owners and agents, ensuring all information is standardized and up-to-date. Requirements - Proficiency in accounting software systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools.

Strong knowledge of accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general accounting functions.

Experience with billing processes, auditing, and financial reporting.

Familiarity with Yardi or similar financial management software is preferred.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to analyze financial data effectively.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.

Prior experience in a similar role within a public housing or government-funded program is a plus.
