NY1533420 Position: Accountant Payee Specialist

Qualifications: An Associates Degree in Accounting or a related field, along with at least one year of relevant experience, is required. The ideal candidate will have experience managing benefits for people we support who live in certified settings through OPWDD or similar Medicaid-funded programs, as well as working with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and serving as a Representative Payee for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel) are essential. Additionally, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to effectively collaborate across departments and compliance monitoring are essential to maintaining sound financial management for the people we support.

Position Summary: The Accountant Payee Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring financial accounts and transactions for the people we support who are receiving services, ensuring compliance with OPWDD, Social Security, and other governing regulations. The role involves auditing residential house and petty cash accounts and responding to inquiries from staff and the community. Additionally, the Accountant Payee Specialist oversees SSI and Medicaid resource thresholds, facilitates spend-down arrangements, and advocates for policy updates as needed.

Responsibilities:

Monitor and fund the PEX cards of people we support as needed

Maintain, monitor and balance monthly rent accounts associated with the people we

support

Prepare and execute all transfer of funds to and from the bank accounts belonging to

people we support

Ensure compliance with OPWDD, Social Security and all other government regulation with

respect to The Arc Lexington role as Representative Payee and advocate for changes to policies and procedures as necessary

Collaborate with the Residential Department to monitor and maintain resource levels within

SSI and Medicaid thresholds as it relates to the people we support.

Accurately record and maintain Personal Allowance and Earned Income for the people we

support who The Arc Lexington serves as Representative Payee

Conduct audits of petty cash and residential cash accounts as instructed

Prepare and distribute monthly rent bills for the people we support who The Arc Lexington is

not assigned as Representative Payee

Process and complete monthly journal entries

Reconcile the rent books to the GL

Perform other duties as assigned
