Information Technology Services (ITS), the central IT provider at the University at Albany, seeks applicants for an Audio-Visual Technology (AVT) Manager. This new, senior position manages a wide range of AV technology. This includes traditional installations, such as classrooms, conference rooms, auditoriums, athletic facilities, and research labs, and increasingly encompasses e-gaming studios, video walls, cyber-range installations, and other advanced systems to provide the campus with sophisticated AV technology and improve the user experience across this large-scale operation.
The AVT Manager provides effective and innovative approaches to planning replacement and installation processes. They also steer continuous evaluation and integration of new technology to provide an exceptional AV experience for students, faculty, and staff. The AVT Manager provides leadership, vision, technical expertise, and oversight of design and installations for all University AV technology.
The successful candidate works closely with ITS colleagues, Facilities Management and other campus stakeholders. They supervise staff in ITS' AV Technology Group, coordinate the assistance of other ITS resources, and oversee contracted design and implementation services as needed. They are adept at managing multiple concurrent projects and are comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
Primary Responsibilities:
Project Management
Oversee AV technology design in ITS led and Facilities Management led projects.
Provide budgetary estimates and quotes to meet the needs of service owners and the University community.
Oversee AV technology implementation in ITS led and Facilities Management led projects.
Serve as the Project Manager for primarily AV-related design and implementation projects.
Obtain outside consultation and deployment assistance from contractors as needed.
Service Management
Develop workflows, processes, and other documentation to proactively facilitate ongoing support and maintenance activities.
Oversee ITS' daily response to all customer tickets related to AV.
Gather assessment data to ensure services are being effectively delivered and managed; monitor customer tickets with care and oversight of the end-user experience.
Demonstrate continuous improvement.
Manage 3rd party warranty and service contract activities.
Supervision
Lead and manage direct reports by providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices foster a positive and productive work environment. Complete performance management activities in a timely manner, offering constructive feedback and developing improvement plans.
Oversee the work of staff to ensure documented standards are followed and work quality is high
Empower direct reports to take initiative, communicate effectively, and ensure consistent work
Standards and Design
Lead the development of design and implementation standards for common AV deployments; document the standards, including diagrams, and update as needed.
Work closely with other ITS managers, campus stakeholders, and Facilities Management to understand the needs of the University community and provide knowledge, leadership, and vision.
Assist other ITS managers in developing their strategic goals and roadmaps related to spaces and services incorporating AV technology.
Stay abreast of industry trends and changes in AV technology.
Create and maintain system diagrams for all non-standard configurations including those in Athletic facilities, event spaces, and specialized classrooms and labs.
Asset Management and Budgeting
Ensure that practices and procedures are in place and followed to ensure that all AV components, both stored or deployed, are accurately reflected in the inventory management system.
Annually revise the 5-yr budget plan for replacement of aging technology.
Prepare budgetary estimates for projects.
Develop strategies stocking spare components in support of operational needs.

Job Requirements:
Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities, ensuring timely delivery, high quality, and attention to detail.
Ability to engage with customers to analyze, document, and translate business requirements into effective technical designs, workflows, business processes, and specifications.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical details effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
Provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.
Report to campus in-person. This position is not eligible for telecommuting.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
5 years' experience installing, troubleshooting and documenting the installation of AV technology in classrooms or conference rooms.
3 years' experience supervising a team responsible for AV technology installation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing, creating configuration files, and documenting user interfaces for Crestron touch panels.
Experience designing, creating configuration files, and documenting user interfaces for Extron touch panels.
Experience developing schematic or other appropriate documentation.
Project management experience.
Experience installing AV technology in an educational institution.
Working Environment:
Typical office environment-- this position also requires work in classrooms, conference rooms and other locations where workstations, AV, network, etc. are installed.
