Admissions Administrative Assistant
This is a temporary position, not expected to last longer than 3 months.
Position Summary:
At the Long Island State Veterans Home, an Administrative Assistant is a valuable member of our team who provides administrative support to the Admissions Department. The ideal incumbent must work in collaboration with the Admissions Department and will demonstrate superior communication and organization skills.
Duties of an Administrative Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:
Assist the Admissions team in day-to-day departmental operations.
Assist potential applicants and their families with admission requirement inquiries.
Assembles and ensures accuracy of paperwork for new admissions.
Responsible for monitoring and maintaining admissions electronic waiting list.
Work with hospitals and discharge planners to assist in the coordination of admissions utilizing computerized system.
Responsible for communicating with families and potential applicant on a daily basis regarding admission status.
Acts as a liaison among Admissions staff, disciplinary team and potential applicant as well as their families.
Coordinate and schedule appointments to include tour of the facility.
Provide general administrative support to Admissions to include but not limited to correspondence, distribution of disposition of PRI's and prepare various reports.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of healthcare experience. Experience working with large volume data entry, proficiency in various PC software including Excel and Word. Experience working in a skilling nursing home facility.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Essential Position: This position has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. This means that when the Long Island State Veterans Home is faced with an emergency, employees in such positions are required to remain at their work location or to report to work.
The LISVH is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility. As such, all positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary to meet the operating needs of the facility.
Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department
Complete reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references,
Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s)
