RISK MANAGERENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
The Non-Clinical Risk Manager supports the achievement of zero preventable harm for patients, colleagues, and the communities we serve, while protecting the assets of the Ministry. In collaboration with Risk Management leadership is accountable to support and maintain the risk management program.
Assists with investigations and identifies improvement opportunities for near misses and adverse events. Supports claims management activities related to incidents and litigated cases. Responsible for specified coverage lines encompassing all sites owned by the ministry and insured by Trinity Health. Assists with investigations into EMTALA related concerns and identifies major trending patterns. Participates in the risk management reduction strategies with the Risk Management team.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in health sciences or a related field is required. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Three (3) years of experience in a healthcare field is required. Two (2) years of experience in Risk Management is preferred.
Effective communication (both written and verbal) and organizational skills, with appropriate task prioritization, is required.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other colleagues and leaders in the organization is required.
Proficiency in use of computer applications, predominantly Excel and Word, is required. Proficiency in report building is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Risk Finance Support
Serve as liaison between the ministry and Trinity Health to coordinate the insurance for all service lines.
Maintains a current list of property locations.
Investigate property loss and collaborate with other departments on causal analysis and action plans to prevent loss.
Responds to professional liability and facility liability questions posed by physicians, nurses, and other colleagues.
Processes requests for professional liability insurance verifications and claims history.
Coordinates with supply chain leadership on outside vendor contract agreements.
Facilitates all annual renewals, obtains updated information regarding the operations for the facility to report to the Master Corporate Risk Financing Program, including automobile, business travel, property certificates of insurance, auto and WC certificates of insurance, GL and PL certificates of insurance, excess workers compensation, foreign liability, heliport and non-owned aviation, HFM fiscal year end statistics review, and managed care.
State Reporting Requirements
Maintains risk management statistics and files in compliance with the Joint Commission, state, and federal agencies; promotes maximum confidentiality by limiting access of such information in compliance with the Patient Safety Evaluation System policy and procedure. Also strives to verify that the following information is accurate, available, and secure: medical records, patient billing records, policies/procedures, event reports, as well as any other data pertinent to a particular claim.
Supports the implementation of systems and on-going processes to comply with requirements of the Safe Medical Device Act (SMDA). Works collaboratively with all other hospital departments who have responsibility for SMDA tracking and/or reporting.
Liability Claims Support
Works with liability claims staff to coordinate the investigation, processing, and defense of claims against the facility and provides to defense attorneys requested information and documents necessary to prepare testimony in pending litigations.
Committee and Board Reporting
Compiles and provides risk management reports to management, leadership, and medical staff.
Collects, evaluates, and distributes relevant data concerning patient injuries, aggregate data summaries, monthly trend analysis of events, daily safety huddle data, claims profiles, and other risk management data.
Notifies Risk Management leaders of serious reportable events and of those incidents with claims potential and the action plan to mitigate these risks.
Product Recall Management
Provides administrative responsibility for the product recall management system.
Other Risk Activities
Participates in the process of disclosure as it relates to visitor and patient risk liability disputes, including injuries related to the environment.
Initiates the write off process as indicated after appropriate investigation of events.
Participates in education consistent with the non-clinical loss control area of focus to ministry colleagues to enhance awareness of their role in reducing liability exposure.
Facilitate, in collaboration with regional Risk Management team and local Revenue Integrity, the Patient Account Revenue Team (PART)
Work in conjunction of local Risk Manager to review, investigate, and close low level event reports
