As an Accounting Manager at Caterpillar, you will lead a team of management accountants responsible for providing insights to the Strategic Procurement and Planning Division (SPPD). The SPPD organization is driving a transformative agenda across Caterpillar through the establishment of an enterprise procurement vision, processes, and tools in support of all segment procurement groups. It drives enterprise-wide standards and support to supplier relationship management, cost leadership and supply resiliency. It is also driving the development of new digital tools and is tasked with advancing procurement talent, capabilities, and technology. SPPD also includes Caterpillar's Global Planning & Demand Management team, providing end-to-end supply/demand planning for the company.
This position manages a team of one to three management accountants responsible for financial planning & analysis for the SPPD organization. Primary duties include the development of annual business plans, quarterly forecasts, and monthly financial reporting packages supporting the SPPD leadership teams. This position will also support requests for capital, lease and investment analysis. In all duties, the Accounting Manager must champion simplification, standardization and digitalization opportunities to enhance reporting and analysis efficiencies.
What You Will Do :
Oversee management accountants, prioritize projects, assign/review work, and provide insight and reporting to different levels of leadership
Prepare monthly financial reporting packages with support of staff
Lead the annual business planning and quarterly forecast process
Provide financial support on ad hoc projects to all levels of management, including reporting related to material cost and supply resiliency and supporting investment analysis related to business case and capital requests
Maintain a strong internal control environment and support SOX and internal audit initiatives
Lead staff in the continuous enhancement of financial reporting, with a focus on lean initiatives
Leverage & expand tools to deliver lean reporting processes (Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate)
Analyze and understand impact of accounting guidance and impact to the organization
Train/develop staff and provide career coaching and guidance; serve as a teacher on accounting issues to staff accountants as well as non-accountants
Lead teams within and outside of discipline through planning, reporting and analysis issues
What You Have
Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
Accounting : Knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools; ability to maintain and prepare financial statements and reports using accounting methods and processes.
Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Accounting/Finance certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CFA)
Advanced degree (e.g., masters, MBA)
Prior experience with capital investment and business case analysis (e.g, DCF, NPV)
Deployment of automation and advanced reporting tools

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
