Summary This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Branch (N9); Fleet and Family Readiness Support Services (N94); Commander, Navy Region Hawaii (JBPHH); Honolulu, HI. The purpose of this position is to provide adequate and timely custodial services to the lodging operation. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Performs custodial duties as required inside and outside of buildings including; but not limited to, trash/garbage removal, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, washing walls/windows, and sanitizing bathrooms/kitchens. Cleans all lobbies, passageways, stairwells, laundry rooms, public restrooms, and other common use areas in and around buildings. Loads, unloads, and relocates heavy, bulky items such as furniture, supplies, and linen (clean and dirty) by hand or using carts, dollies, hand trucks, golf carts, or similar lifting/carrying devices. Performs deep cleaning as required. Deep cleaning may include defrosting refrigerators and freezers, cleaning windows (interior and exterior), replacing and/or cleaning drapes/curtains, moving furniture, and cleaning normally hidden areas, carpet cleaning (shampoo and/or spot treatment), cleaning walls/woodwork, and other such tasks. Deep cleaning may require the use of pressure washers, steam cleaners, floor buffers, and carpet cleaning machines. Ensures security of all guests is maintained at all times. Ensures guest privacy is maintained at all times. Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with guests; answering guest questions concerning hotel facilities; and provide information about local attractions. Provide assistance in handling customer complaints, involving management as necessary. Assists management with the facility's inventory control program. Performs all other related duties as assigned. A qualified candidate must possess: KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Able to apply general knowledge of cleaning procedures and proper use of cleaning equipment and approved, commonly used chemicals (including MSDS) and adherence to basic safety policies is required. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English both verbally and in writing with management, staff, and guests. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and a variety of repetitive motions. Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds is required. Assisted lifting, moving and carrying up to 100 pounds may be required. May be required to climb/descend stairs and properly placed stepladders. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is primarily performed indoors in areas that normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some duties require exposure to outdoors, resulting in exposure to weather conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to dirt, disagreeable odors, and skin/eye irritants from strong cleaning solutions used in household cleaners. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and must be used. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused. This position is subject to the possibility of workdays on weekends and holidays, as well as, rotating shifts, often consisting of other than normal duty hours. The staff member may be recalled to duty and/or required to work overtime, including on an emergency basis. In order to verify fitness for duty, a complete physical examination may be required. May be required to possess a valid state driver license, as travel to other facilities may be required within the normal scope of duties. This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC). Education This position does not have a positive education requirement. Additional Information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs. According to the Executive Order, all Federal employees are required to remain drug free throughout their employment. Commander, Navy Installations Command is a Drug-Free Federal Workplace. The use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated, and use of or intoxication by illegal drugs will result in penalties up to and including removal from Federal Service. Some positions have special requirements. Selection may be tentative pending the completion of these requirements. Applicants may be required to submit proof of education, participate in medical screening, drug testing, etc. All selections are contingent upon satisfactory employment reference checks. Employment is subject to successful National Agency Background Check.
