The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Manages the accounting records and operations of accounting systems processes for the Eastman School of Music. Ensures standard accounting policies and procedures are followed in the management of accounting data and records. Manages general accounting function and the preparation of reports and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash balances, and other financial results. Formulates and administers approved accounting practices throughout the organization to ensure that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the business and provide reliable information necessary to control operations. Manages and assigns work to professional accounting staff. Maintains an in-depth awareness of financial accounting and reporting, analysis and decision support, and reimbursement needs. Maintains responsibility for assigned areas of financial management such as internal financial reporting, classification of accounts and funds, plant ledgers and third-party reimbursement systems. Handles sensitive confidential information with discretion an in a professional manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees general accounting operations for the Eastman School of Music. Provides direction and oversight to accounting staff for the maintenance and operational activities of the general ledger and other reporting and analyses as required. Serves as an advisor to divisional finance directors and other University and affiliate administrators on general ledger activities.
Develops, maintains, and assesses accounting policies and internal controls over key accounting processes to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and in accordance with University policy. Reviews key accounting processes and implements business process improvements.
Designs and develops detail specifications for financial and accounting processes to ensure timely and accurate generation of reports to guide senior management. Enhances and maintains accounting and application of reimbursements, principals and procedures.
Develops and maintains detailed analysis of various statistical and financial information to be used for financial reporting. As assigned, assumes responsibility for special projects involving financial planning and recommending changes.
Develops, implements, and reviews departmental goals and priorities. Recruits, trains, and develops staff and other resource requirements. Manages all human resource aspects (performance management, timekeeping, etc.) for the accounting employees in the department.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance and/or Business administration and 5 years of relevant accounting experience required
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of two years' experience in the direct management and oversight of other employees
Must have well-developed interpersonal skills including concise and professional written and face to face communications.
Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment with all levels of staff including sr. management, department chairs, faculty, central University departments and external parties.
Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in managing priorities and takes responsibility for accomplishing work while maintaining confidentiality of information.
Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage competing demands in a professional manner. Attention to detail a must.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications required.
