THE POSITION

Engineering District 8-0 is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Transportation Construction Inspector. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, your communication skills will be crucial as you engage with property owners, developers, contractors, local officials, and others to clarify occupancy permit requirements and legal constraints while helping to resolve issues related to both proposed and existing projects. You will oversee all facets of Highway Occupancy Permit activities, ensuring that construction inspections comply with Department regulations and procedures within the County Highway Occupancy Permit Office. This position entails explaining requirements to clients and ensuring compliance with regulations, policies, design and construction standards, specifications, testing procedures, and necessary documentation associated with the highway occupancy permit program. Your ability to review and analyze plans and specifications from applicants and their design teams for various highway construction projects will enable you to pinpoint situations that may require input or approval from other Department engineering or legal personnel. Furthermore, the role demands proficiency in working with plans in a field construction environment and researching existing construction plans to confirm legal right-of-way widths.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,890 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
