We are looking for an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to lead and oversee financial operations within a nonprofit organization in Hudson County, New Jersey. This role requires a strong background in nonprofit accounting, grant management, and compliance, as well as exceptional leadership and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will excel in managing complex funding structures and thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment. This is a hybrid opportunity reporting into c level executives. Responsibilities:
Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, to ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations and standards.
Manage grant and contract processes, ensuring proper fund accounting, compliance, and accurate reporting for federal and state funding sources.
Lead the implementation of financial policies and procedures that align with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and Uniform Administrative Requirements.
Supervise and mentor finance team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Coordinate annual audits and ensure timely preparation of financial statements and reports.
Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute strategic financial plans that support organizational goals.
Oversee all the accounting closings.
Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
Ensure adherence to all relevant legal, regulatory, and organizational financial requirements.
Requirements - Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or a bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field with at least 5 years of senior-level experience.
Extensive experience in nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting and grant management.
Proven knowledge of government grants and contracts, including federal and state funding.
Familiarity with Head Start Program Performance Standards and Uniform Administrative Requirements for Federal Awards.
Proficiency in financial software systems such as Concur, ADP, or other accounting tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing teams in a collaborative environment.
Capacity to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under deadlines.
