What Health Physics contributes to Cardinal Health
Our comprehensive suite of Medical and Health Physics Services can help customers manage their radiation safety compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission and State regulations so they can focus on patient care. As trusted consultants, we help our customers maintain the proper storage, handling, measurement and testing of equipment utilized to measure diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. Medical and Health Physics Services include compliance activities, such as: equipment testing, calibration, training, dosimetry, licensing, auditing, and other services tailored to each customer's needs.
The location for this position can be one of the following :
Nebraska (ideally within 2 hours of Omaha)
Kansas or Missouri (ideally within 2 hours of Kansas City)
Responsibilities
Travels for routine customer visits in various states such as Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, Tennessee and other states requiring team coverage. Overnight stays in hotels are routine and daily visits to customer sites within a driving distance are the most common.
Evaluates and/or calibrates radiation measuring equipment used with radioactive materials.
Evaluates radiological equipment to assess compliance with state and/or national standards.
Evaluates radiological imaging procedures to advise on patient dose reduction.
Assists facilities with the development and/or updating of policies and procedures pertaining to the use of radioactive materials and radiological imaging procedures.
Assists facilities with obtaining and ongoing compliance with American College of Radiology and Joint Commissions (Nuclear Medicine and PET camera testing).
Provides consultation to healthcare facilities regarding compliance with radioactive materials licenses and applicable state and/or federal regulations.
Prepares radioactive materials license applications, renewals, and amendment requests.
Assists facilities with interactions with regulatory agencies regarding radioactive materials and radiation producing machines.
Completes radiation safety audits and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) reviews as required.
Provides timely responses to customer and regulatory agency questions concerning radiation safety and health physics.
Performs nuclear medicine, HDR (high dose rate) and industrial radiation safety reviews.
Performs dosimetry reviews, worker and patient dose estimates, and fetal dose estimates.
Conducts dose investigations and assist facilities with regulatory compliance.
Conducts group and individual training sessions; document training activities as required. Maintain current reference library for radiation protection.
Provides customer survey meter calibration and other radiation safety services as required by the customer RAM (Radioactive Materials) License.
Contacts potential new customers and markets to expand the customer base. Manage new customer contracts by working with Legal on approved language.
Performs other job-related duties as requested and work effectively with other team members to ensure the goals and objectives are met.
Develops skills that meet requirements to be named as RSO (Radiation Safety Officer) on customer licenses - 10 CFR 35.100, 35.200, 35.300, 35.400, 35.600 and 35.100.
Tracks internal trends and suggests process improvements based on observations
Submits accurate billing for services and manages financials for region
Draws on best practices and comprehensive technical knowledge to advise customers.
Qualifications
8-12 years of experience, preferred
Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
Ability to travel up 80% of the time. Must be comfortable with routine overnight stays and daily visits to customer sites within a driving distance.
Ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
Proficiency in basic health physics concepts (survey instrument use, survey technique, leak testing, dose calibrator testing, dosimetry review, and dose estimates).
Proficiency in Agreement State and NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) regulations.
Excellent professional writing skills
Well versed in Microsoft Office applications
