The Waste Treatment Plant Operator isresponsible for operating and
maintaining a wastewater treatment plant to ensure efficient and
compliant wastewater treatment.This includes operating equipment,
monitoring processes, collecting and testing samples, and maintaining
records.They also play a role in emergency response and ensuring
compliance with regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Controlling pumps, valves, and other machinery to manage wastewater
flow and treatment processes.
Gathering wastewater samples at various stages of treatment and
conducting laboratory tests to assess water quality.
Adding chemicals like chlorine and other disinfectants to control
bacteria and other contaminants.
Performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on plant
equipment.
Following safety procedures, adhering to state and federal
regulations, and maintaining records.
Implementing emergency response protocols in case of spills,
equipment malfunctions, or other incidents.
Using mathematical formulas to calculate flow rates, detention
times, and other process parameters.
Keeping detailed records of plant operations, test results, and
maintenance activities.
May assist with cleaning buildings, grounds, and equipment, as well
as painting.
Must have computer knowledge.
Performs other related duties as required.
