Job Title: Construction InspectorJob Description

Construction Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects, performing tests on soils and materials. Work is performed under the supervision of a Project Engineer. In most cases, an Inspector's day-to-day direct supervisor may be a client's direct employee. Construction Inspectors have many categories that range from entry-level to senior inspector roles. All Inspectors are required to travel and be available to work in any part of the State, subject to change of assignments, as work requires. We work when the contractor works. Inspectors are required to have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Inspectors must also be able to work night shifts when necessary.

Responsibilities

Inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects.

Perform tests on soils and materials.

Report to and work under the supervision of a Project Engineer.

Travel and be available to work in any part of the State as required.

Work night shifts if necessary.

Essential Skills

3-5 years of experience in construction inspection, management, or performance.

Prior VDOT or similar public agency experience.

Experience in heavy civil, highway, rail, or utility construction.

ACI Concrete Certification.

Asphalt 1&2 Certification.

2+ years of VDOT experience.

Ability to recognize names and basic definitions of VDOT construction management terminology.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in environmental fieldwork.

Experience with roadway and aggregate testing.

EIT certification.

Work Environment

Fully engaged in the field, working closely with contractors and engineers. The role may require night shifts and extensive travel. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $88000.00/yr.
