POSITION SUMMARY
Operates specialized vehicles and motorized equipment, transports crews, materials and equipment.
Department : Public Works
Posting Type : Announcement/Bid
Salary : $27.37 per hour.
Union : This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Union Bid Form : None required . Your application for this position will serve as your union bid form.
Civil Service Classification : Non-Competitive.
REQUIREMENTS
General Application Requirements :

Applicants must become residents of the City of Pittsburgh prior to employment and remain a resident throughout employment.

A current, valid Commercial Class A driver's license with the "L" airbrake restriction lifted from the license AND t he "N" tank truck endorsement is required at time of application and must be maintained throughout employment.
Candid ate selec ted to fill this position MUST obtain the "X" combination hazardous materials and tank truck endorsement within 3 months of date of hire/promotion.
NOTE : The City of Pittsburgh, as a matter of policy, conducts pre-employment and promotional background investigations on all candidates being considered for positions . The background investigation includes but is not limited to criminal background, driver's license and City of Pittsburgh real estate tax payments . Candidates may be disqualified from consideration for employment based on the results of their background investigation ( as it relates to the job for which the applicant is being considered ).
Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed, and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
WORK EXPERIENCE : The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time professional truck driving experience. (Less than full-time experience will be calcul ated on a pro-rated basis).
EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a high school diploma or GED Equivalency.
EQUIVALENCY: None permitted for this position. Therefore, no education/training and/or work experience may be substituted toward the qualifying requirements listed above.
CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS
If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s). You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

POSITION DUTIES
Drives and/or operates specialized vehicles and motorized equipment (e.g., tractor trailer, flusher, vactor, jetter, winch, boom, aerial bucket truck, asphalt "tack" truck, crane truck, etc.).
Inspects mechanical condition of vehicle and reports malfunctions; performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs and adjustments.
Checks oil, water, gas, tires, etc.; may schedule periodic maintenance on vehicle; maintains written records relating to vehicle and equipment maintenance on vehicles.
Works as a member of the vehicle's crew as assigned or required.
Transports crews and/or materials and/or equipment.
Loads and unloads equipment and materials as requested or required.
Ensures that safety procedures are observed.
May be required to provide guidance and/or assistance to assigned work crew.
May be required to direct traffic at work site.
May tow or operate specialized equipment.
May work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
Performs activities and functions of related lower level personnel and other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
