About Logansport State Hospital:
Logansport State Hospital is a state-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital for adults with mental illness. Using an interdisciplinary approach and evidence-based programming, we promote recovery and return of the individual to the community.
Role Overview:
The role of this nurse practitioner is to provide primary care in a psychiatric inpatient setting.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $109,304.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Perform patient health history, physical exams and establish diagnosis.
Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies.
Perform invasive procedures and therapeutic/corrective measures.
Refer patients to appropriate health care providers.
Prescribe medication and treatment within practice guidelines.
Provide initial emergency care such as CPR and alerts appropriate emergency providers.
Provide consultation through collaboration with a variety of health care professionals.
Lead and direct nursing staff in the design, coordination, and evaluation of research to improve clinical practice and delivery of health care for patients.
Direct or participate in the oversight and application of and quality research assurance projects.
Develop educational programs for individual patients and patient groups appropriate to health problems, level of functioning, emotional needs, and patient characteristics.
Maintain accurate records to reflect and assume accountability for clinical decisions and actions.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Must hold a current Nurse Practitioner license from the State of Indiana.
Must hold a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) specific to the State of Indiana.
Ability to apply conceptual theory-based knowledge to manage patient's health care status and assure optimal care of patients.
Specialized knowledge of, and the ability to utilize, the full range of accepted professional nursing principles and practices within in-patient care.
Working knowledge of psychology relative to handling and caring for mentally disabled patients and those with abnormal mental and behavioral patterns as provided in nursing education.
Possess a high degree of skill in providing patient care and in reacting effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to communicate with patients regarding medical and nursing procedures and patient conditions.
Ability to effectively communicate and interpret, give, and follow directions.
Ability to develop and apply nursing care plans and provide guidance to staff nurses.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
