This vacancy is being posted at the Recreation Therapist and Recreation Therapist Senior levels; the level at which the positions are filled will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications.
The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) is a sex offense specific treatment program in a modified therapeutic community and secure setting that provides comprehensive services to 740 civilly committed clients. Services include sex offense specific treatment, education programming, therapeutic recreation, vocational programming and volunteer services, and health and wellness.
The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) is seeking an individual to join our team for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as a Recreation Therapist for our St. Peter location.
This position plays an important role in developing, implementing and evaluating innovative therapeutic recreation and leisure programs. Working within applicable rules, regulations and policies, the Recreation Therapist demonstrates creativity and flexibility in the treatment planning process which includes collaborating with the treatment team. These programs promote client independence through goal planning, scheduling and promoting daily activities.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Provide services to adults that have been civilly committed, assess leisure/recreational needs, create and facilitate treatment interventions, organize and prepare recreation participation opportunities.
Work with others in developing and implementing psychosocial rehabilitation programs.
Facilitate and contribute to recreation programming design, development and evaluation which promotes client independencewhile also teaching clients constructive use of their leisure time through goal planning and promoting healthy daily activities.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing to provide appropriate and timely documentation of therapeutic service delivery.
Participate in department meetings/committees for the purpose of enhancing therapeutic programming.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience conducting recreation therapy programs, facilitating recreation activities in a healthcare or education setting or working in a mental health, substance use disorder, and/or sex offender specific treatment setting in a direct care position
*Note : A Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Park/Recreation & Leisure, Physical Education, Social Work, or Psychology may substitute for 1 year of experience
Recreation Therapist Senior
Four (4) years of experience conducting recreation therapy programs, facilitating recreation activities in a healthcare or education setting or working in a mental health, substance use disorder, and/or sex offender specific treatment setting in a direct care position
OR
Current certification with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (https://www.nctrc.org/)
Note: A Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Park/Recreation & Leisure, Physical Education, Social Work, or Psychology may substitute for 1 year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year of experience working in a mental health and/or sex offender specific treatment setting.
