Job Summary and Qualifications
Provides general operational oversight for the Patient Safety and Accreditation functions of the overall Risk Management program. Establishes a structure for promoting a patient safety culture; emphasizing risk reduction within the organization while analyzing trends of events to determine process improvements necessary to ensure alignment of patient safety strategies with MCFW's mission, vision, values and goals. Recognizes and addresses patient safety/risk exposures affecting quality of care and outcomes by evaluating new misses, occurrence reports, clinical surveillance and regulatory/legislative standards. Partners with Quality in coordination, monitoring of, and oversight for ongoing-readiness to satisfy the requirements of various accrediting bodies (Joint Commission, CMS, TDH, etc.) and to promote Patient Safety and Quality campus-wide. In addition, is responsible for coordinating those systems necessary for identification, evaluation, monitoring, education and/or elimination of professional and general liability exposures. Collects, analyzes and evaluated data to develop recommendations for improvement within the department and throughout MCFW.
Quality
Maintains the Quality/Risk computer documentation system as assigned.
Evaluates and develosp databases and performance improvement tools to facilitate measurement and ongoing reviews for performance improvement activities.
Supports the Patient Safety Committee.
Facilitates the reporting of HACs and Publicly Reported Data initiatives
Participates in the development and evaluation of professional practice by interacting in unit and/or hospital committees, special projects and attendance at staff meetings and town halls.
Assists with the development and implementation of educational programs for employees, medical staff and board members based on analyses of risk assessments, historical and concurrent occurrence and claims data, and national trends; provides ongoing education and resources to all hospital staff regarding risk reduction practices and timely reporting of events and occurrences.
Data
Performs data entry and managementof moderately complex internal databases.
Collects, analyzes and resports risk data through the appropriate committees as assigned.
Develops, communicates, implements and manages the event reporting system daily to ensure timely review and escalation of time sensitive reports.
Conducts systems analyses to uncover and identify patterns that could result in compensable events.
Assists leaders in the design of risk managements programs specific to their department and unique risk.
Assists with facilitation and incorporates requirements into quality, infection control, risk and patient safety.
Collaborates with healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Maintains confidentiality.
Participates in the orientation of new employees regarding hospital Risk Management initiatives.
Demostrates sensitivity to culturally diverse patient population.
Proactively seeks team building and positive working relationships with all hospital and medical staff.
Follows patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions,use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
