Hiring a Payroll Accountant in Newburgh, NY! Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing payroll, managing revenue, and performing general accounting duties. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of accounting principles.

Responsibilities

Prepare and process payroll using the payroll processing system.

Print payroll reports and distribute them accordingly.

Post payroll, garnishment, and deduction entries in QuickBooks.

Review garnishment and deduction schedules.

Prepare and record monthly payroll accruals.

Generate monthly labor allocation reports.

Create worker compensation allocation reports.

Compile quarterly worksite and disability reports.

Prepare annual accrued in-house vacation expenses.

Maintain a list of rates by provider.

Handle crisis and OPWDD invoicing and record proper revenue.

Post receipts of payments accordingly.

Maintain and review the deferred revenue schedule on a monthly basis.

Review and correct classes marked as 'not specified'.

Post deposits to accounting software.

Edit the department procedure manual as needed.

Cross-train with the Accounting Associate.

Assist with special projects as needed.

Monitor control accounts and clear out discrepancies as needed.

Delegate tasks to the Accounting Associate as required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or Chief Financial Officer.

Essential Skills

3+ years of accounting experience, including payroll accounting.

Experience with garnishments and deductions.

Ability to process monthly payroll accruals and generate labor allocation reports.

Proficiency in MS Excel for reporting purposes.

Familiarity with MediSked and Paylocity.

Strong understanding of QuickBooks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

AS in Accounting preferred or 4 years of experience in accounting.

Excellent attention to detail.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong communication skills.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break, totaling a 40-hour work week. The environment is collaborative and supportive, fostering a sense of camaraderie and community spirit. Regular government audits may require additional attention and diligence.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
