Job Title: Camp Nurse Assistant

Rate of Pay: $400 weekly - 8 weeks

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Temporary, Exempt employees are
eligible for but not limited to the following:
Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and
availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time
hours
Function: The Camp Nurse Assistant's primary responsibilities are to
provide first aid to sick and/or injured personnel and serve as a first
responder to any emergency situation involving injuries. Additional
responsibilities include accounting for medications during registration,
distributing the medication during meals and evening snacks and keeps a
written log of everything. The Camp Nurse Assistant works closely with the
Camp Nurse. This position will adhere to the Camp Code of Conduct, support
the Christian camping and ministry culture as well as uphold the mission,
and practices of The Salvation Army and its doctrine.
Duties and Responsibilities:
GENERAL DUTIES:
Attend and participate in evening programs and spiritual activities.
Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and in living
quarters.
Assist with the clean-up of the total camp at the end of each session and at
the conclusion of the summer.
Prepare and deliver the Camp Nurse camp brief at the end of the summer.
Attend and participate in Staff Orientation.
When able, attend and participate in all camp wide activities,
campfires, staff meetings and staff devotions
Assist with Camper check-in and check-out.
Specifically, the health assessment at check in and camper medication
distribution on the last day.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Safety and Supervision
Enforce, and abide by, all camp policies and procedures
Responsible for the health and well-being of self and campers.
Maintain the utmost level of safety for staff and campers at all times
Practice and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures.
Maintain group/staff control at specialized group activities so that other
support staff can focus on safety.
Ensure compliance with American Camping Association standards of safety and
programmatic conduct at all times.
Maintain good records of treatment, medication distribution, and other tasks.
Attend relevant in-service trainings.
Weekly Responsibilities
Assist the Camp Nurse is planning and carrying out a total health and safety
program for the camp staff according to High Peak Camp health protocols.
Guide Cabin Leaders in their responsibilities for their camper's health.
Assist Camp Nurse as assigned in the following duties:
Communicate information effectively and accurately to facilitate continuity of
care.
Maintain accountability for nursing judgements and actions.
Make appropriate decisions that reflect knowledge and good judgement.
Recognize and demonstrate an awareness of legal responsibility and limitations
by functioning within the scope of HPC including, but not limited to:
Keeping a daily log of all camper and staff treatment.
Utilizing aseptic technique.
Recognizing the existence of an infection process.
Using equipment and supplies in a safe, legal, and economic manner.
Collecting and filing all camper medical files.
Compiling a brief at the end of the summer season.
Complete and file the health log as specified on the front cover within a
reasonable time. Each camper that visits the infirmary should be entered into
the log, with the following:
A description of the injury or illness.
The campers of staff's cabin, age, and time of visit.
Indicate treatment given and initial in the columns indicated.
Log staff members who visit in the same fashion as the campers, using red
ink for easy identification in case of a workman's compensation claim.
Educate the registration staff regarding lice check procedures,which will
be used during camper registration at the beginning of each week.
Responsible for the medical screening of all campers during the camper
registration process, which include logging all medication(s) for each
camper, dosage and dispense frequency, log the allergies, infections,
medications, and any unusual health history of each camper.
Administer all medications and treatments according to the physician's orders.
If a child is prescribed any mood or behavior altering medication, it is
your responsibility to make the Cabin Leader aware of the situation.
All medications, prescriptions, non-prescriptions, aspirin,
vitamins, etc. will be kept in the infirmary for appropriate dispensing
times. The camper may keep aerosol inhalers with the Cabin Leader's
notificatio
If any medications are listed by a physician, but not in the possession of
the camper, the parent must be contacted and fax a note from the family
doctor that the medication has either been discontinued or not needed for the
week. If this note cannot be obtained, the camper will be sent home.
Strict cleanliness and sanitation in the infirmary must be maintained at all
times. Infirmary beds linens should be changed daily when in use. Infirmary
showers/bathrooms should be cleaned and sanitized weekly when not in use and
daily when in use.
Inform the Assistant Director and Director of all unusual medical events.
Hold office hours before and after ever meal and for 30 minutes before
bedtime.
Keep an organized inventory of all necessary medical supplies.
Stock and supply First Aid Kits for cabins and hikes.
