POSITION SUMMARY:
Join the Alcohol Testing Program team located within FDLE's Forensic Services division! You will work collaboratively with both internal and external partners to ensure the accuracy and reliability of breath testing instrumentation in the state of Florida.
Your responsibilities will include calibrating breath testing instrumentation, instructing officers on approved breath testing curricula, and testifying in courts of law when summoned to do so. This position requires an individual to interact professionally with law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and defense attorneys on a regular basis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
Calibrating the evidentiary breath test instruments as required by Chapter 11D-8, FAC ensuring the scientific accuracy and reliability;
Providing direction, assistance and customer service for the criminal justice community, state municipal and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as judicial branches, Criminal Justice Training Centers, and the private sector;
Exercising independent judgment while formulating or assessing Statute and Rule impacting Breath Test Operators, Agency Inspectors, Breath Test Instructors, Criminal Justice Agencies and Criminal Justice Training Centers;
Assisting customers by serving as a liaison and expert resource between the FDLE, law enforcement agencies, criminal justice training centers and judicial officers of the court;
Attending, facilitating and conducting training seminars, courses and other related meetings to ensure compliance with Statute and Administrative Code;
Assisting law enforcement agencies in the development of policy and procedure to further accomplish the goal of the Alcohol Testing Program;
Testifying in a clear, accurate, truthful and professional manner as an expert witness; and
Preparing written reports based on the on-site audit of evidentiary breath test instrumentation.
To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor's or advanced degree in physical, biological or forensic science from an accredited college or university with the completion of at least 15 credit hours in chemistry coursework graded at a "C" or better.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis;
Knowledge of basic management principles and practices;
Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of management practices;
Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials;
Ability to conduct fact finding research;
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
Ability to communicate effectively; and
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
