POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Lincoln County Ambulance Service
Director, the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is a non-exempt
position under FLSA. The employee is responsible for providing emergency
medical treatment in a pre-hospital setting and basic and advanced life
support to the sick and injured within the established scope of practice
as defined by the approved department protocols. This employee should be
able to operate the ambulance and basic and advanced life support
equipment calmly in emergencies, and should possess strong
organizational, communication, and public relation skills. This employee
collaborates with other members of the health care and public service
teams to ensure coordination and quality of care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides basic and advanced life support to the sick & injured and
participates in patient assessment and/or treatment;
Exercises appropriate judgment based on knowledge, skills, and
understanding of the appropriate emergency medical care and adheres to
the EMS standard of care and/or procedures;
Provides appropriate EKG therapy to patients based on EMS standards of
care and/or protocols;
Interprets EKG rhythms;
Provides basic airway therapy based on EMS standards and/or protocols;
Provides intravenous therapy based on EMS standards and/or protocols;
Provides pharmacological therapy based on EMS standards and/or
protocols;
Provides advanced life support skills based on EMS standards and/or
protocols;
Inspects and maintains department equipment daily or as according to
department policy;
Operates ambulance safely and in accordance with traffic laws and
department policies;
Maintains an inventory of station supplies and assists with the
purchasing of supplies;
Cleans vehicle and equipment after each use;
Maintains current knowledge of emergency medical techniques;
Assists in developing and implementation of long & short term plans
regarding emergency medical standards;
Prepares monthly reports as directed;
Completes patient reports and data forms;
Participates in public awareness and training programs.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Cleans and maintains the Emergency Services Facility and department
equipment;
Assists in training sessions and training new employees;
Attends monthly meetings;
Assists with Emergency Preparedness response as assigned, according to
chain of command;
Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

EXPERIENCE: One year of emergency medical experience is preferred.
Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and
skills to perform the job well within six months of employment.
EDUCATION: A high school diploma or GED is required. This position
requires a Kansas Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification
and a valid Kansas Drivers License.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: Knowledge of computers, emergency medical procedures
and equipment, state and federal regulations, and a working knowledge of
equipment maintenance, and mathematics are required. This employee must
be able to accurately operate computers, printers, ambulances, radios,
and all basic and advanced life support medical equipment. This employee
should have thoroughknowledge of basic and advanced pharmacology and
procedures. The ability to remain calm in emergency situations, to
understand and anticipate problems is required. The ability to read and
interpret maps, manuals, reports, and written instructions is required.
This employee should possess strong organizational, communication and
public relation skills.
PROBLEM SOLVING: Problem solving is a factor in this position. This
employee may encounter problems with equipment malfunctions, driving in
adverse weather, citizen complaints, and providing patient treatment.
This employee must have the ability to analyze emergent and non-emergent
situations and determine appropriate action.
DECISION MAKING:\
Decision-making is a factor in this position. This employee makes
decisions about patient care modalities, prioritizing assignments, and
performing daily duties in the safest and most efficient manner.
SUPERVISION:\
This position is subject to the supervision from the Lincoln County
Ambulance Service Director. This employee does not exercise supervision
over subordinate personnel.
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY:\
This employee is responsible for
