JOB SUMMARY

SUMMARY This position is responsible for the setup, configuration, and support of the Citys networking infrastructure and Motorola P25 700/800 MHz Trunked Radio System. The role is primarily focused on managing and supporting LAN/WAN, network security, and VoIP systems, but also is responsible for the public safety radio communications systems. The ideal candidate brings strong networking expertise with solid hands-on experience in Motorola P25 systems. This position also provides guidance to users, recommends upgrades and improvements, and ensures the stability and security of mission-critical systems. Provides input for the annual budget by preparing price quotes, technical specifications, and justifications for network, radio, and telecommunications systems and equipment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Designs, manages, and supports the City's LAN/WAN, including routers, switches, firewalls, and security systems.

Maintains access control systems, VoIP phone systems, and mobile device management.

Troubleshoots complex network issues (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, subnetting) and ensures network security.

Monitors network health, performs hardware installations, and documents network topology.

Provides technical support, staff training, and recommends system upgrades.

Supports and maintains the Motorola P25 700/800 MHz radio system.

Programs, encrypts, and updates Motorola radios and dispatch consoles.

Troubleshoots two-way radios, in-vehicle communication systems, and coordinates with public safety departments.

Manages radio system installations, vendor relations, and licensing compliance.

Collaborates with departments and agencies to assess and meet technical needs.

Ensures workplace safety and provides after-hours support for emergencies.

Maintains professional relationships with City staff, vendors, and public safety personnel.

Regular contact with City employees, public safety departments, citizens, contractors, and vendors. Collaborate with external agencies such as county emergency services and mutual aid partners.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.

CCNA certification preferred

Minimum of five (5) years experience in Motorola radio systems preferred.

Valid class C Texas drivers license with driving record that meets City guidelines.

Expertise in networking (IP routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VoIP) and cybersecurity best practices.

Hands-on experience with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and Motorola P25 radio systems.Familiarity with VHF/UHF/700/800 MHz communications and RF technologies.

Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and project management skills.
