Job Summary:

The Operations/Emergency Response Team Supervisor will be responsible for supervising an assigned Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Control Room Operator (CRO) (typically a Team of 5) in the performance of their duties. The duties of the Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) and the Control Room Operators (CROs) include the daily operations, light maintenance and housekeeping of the tunnel systems as well as emergency response to roadway incidents in and around the tunnels. The Supervisor will ensure that the ERTs and CROs carryout the required duties in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to the established Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) including, but not limited to, ventilation, lighting, emergency systems and Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) and applicable local, state and federal safety regulations. Assist with incident management to ensure ERT crews seek out and assist with disabled vehicles, stranded motorists, removal of roadway debris, cleanup of spilled materials, vehicle crashes, fires and any obstructions impacting traffic and/or the facilities. Supervisor will also be responsible for ensuring the assigned Teams provide accurate daily pass along reports and timely incident documentation as required by VDOT. This role requires strong leadership abilities, quick decision-making abilities, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Reports to Operations Superintendent

Supervise and coordinate the activities of tunnel operations staff.

Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.

Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance, incidents, training, and team performance.

Provide support and guidance to team members during emergencies.

Participate in post incident reviews to identify areas for improvement and update response plans accordingly

Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.

Qualifications:

Supervisory experience.

Valid drivers license

High School Diploma/GED

Basic Computer (MS Office Suite) and technology skills.

Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal skills and team management skills

Willingness and ability to receive and complete training certifications in tunnel operations, safety regulations, and emergency response procedures

Ability to work 12-hour shifts (typically 4 days on and 4 days off) plus on call (on one of the 4 days off) when needed

Knowledge of transportation, tunnel systems, infrastructure and emergency response preferred.
