Director of Health Services Job Description

The Director of Health Services is responsible for all aspects of health services across the Brook Hill community, providing leadership for school health policies, programs, and personnel. This role combines clinical expertise with strategic oversight, serving both as a campus nurse and as the primary point of contact for health-related matters. The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality care and health education, coordinates with families and external providers, and promotes a safe and healthy school environment. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Texas with a valid license to practice professional nursing.

A minimum of two years of nursing experience, preferably in school nursing, community health, pediatrics, or emergency medicine

Certified by the State of Texas to conduct vision and hearing screening (or obtain upon employment)

Certified by the State of Texas to conduct scoliosis screening (or obtain upon employment)

CPR certification (BLS)

Willingness and ability to obtain membership with the:

National Association of School Nurses (NASN)

Texas School Nurse Organization (TSNO)

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Facilitate the meeting and collaboration of the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

Update and implement policies as suggested/approved by SHAC, campus principals, or the Head of School

Maintain current knowledge of Texas Department of State Health Services (TDHS) standards for school health and ensure compliance.

Oversee and update the Brook Hill Health Care Manual in alignment with applicable health regulations and best practices.

Advocate for student safety and the protection of health-related privacy.

Serve as the lead health care provider and medical resource on campus, assessing student health, managing acute and chronic conditions, providing first response, and supporting public health initiatives.

Develop and maintain Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans as required by TDHS and student needs

Promote overall health and safety through education, immunization monitoring, communicable disease management, infection control, and injury prevention.

Provide health-related consultation and professional development to faculty and staff as needed.

Coordinate with school leadership and health officials in response to local, national, or global disease outbreaks.

Supervise and support the school's nursing staff, including substitute nurses and the Residence Life Nurse; lead bi-weekly nursing staff meetings.

Manage the health services budget, including purchasing and distributing medical supplies across all campuses.

Monitor and maintain medical supply inventory and equipment in all campus clinics.

Remain flexible in providing coverage and support across Upper School, Lower School, and the Boarding Program as needed.

Coordinate with physicians, dentists, counselors, physical therapists, and other health care professionals who provide care for students.

Implement physician's orders and collaborate with external medical providers to ensure appropriate follow-up care.

Oversee accurate and compliant student health records, including immunizations, medication administration, and treatment documentation; maintain records in Magnus Health and Veracross.

Collaborate with the technology department to support annual data integration and troubleshoot issues within Magnus Health.

Provide medical records for withdrawn students as requested and ensure compliance with state data auditing requirements.

Establish and carry out mandatory health screening programs (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and submit required state reports to TDHS.

Participate in the assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse in accordance with state law.

Coordinate or attend off-campus and overnight trips as needed to ensure medical coverage; arrange staffing when personal attendance is not possible.

Provide on-call medical guidance to Residence Life staff when the Residence Life Nurse is off-duty.

This person will also serve as the campus nurse on either our Lower or Middle/Upper School campus, the duties and responsibilities for which include, but are not limited to:

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDHS) school health standards and best practices.

Assess student health concerns, provide appropriate care, and respond effectively to medical emergencies.

Develop and implement individualized health care plans and emergency care plans in accordance with TDHS and Board of Nursing guidelines.

Promote public health by monitoring immunization compliance, managing communicable diseases, and overseeing infection control procedures.

Provide care for chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and injuries; administer medications and perform routine health procedures.

Conduct state-mandated health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis, BMI, mental health).

Collaborate with teachers, staff, parents, and healthcare professionals to support student wellness and academic success.

Coordinate care with medical providers, counselors, therapists, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive student support.

Assist the Boarding Office in scheduling off-campus medical appointments and maintaining complete health documentation for boarding students.

Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunizations, medication administration logs, and treatment notes.

Ensure clinic readiness by monitoring medical supply levels, tracking expiration dates, and ensuring proper medication storage; notify the Director of Health Services when additional supplies are needed.

Communicate with parents regarding student health incidents, ongoing care needs, and follow-up recommendations.

Partner with Admissions to review health documentation and ensure new student compliance with immunization requirements.

Support parent conferences and respond to health-related concerns with professionalism and discretion.

Participate in and occasionally lead staff training on health topics such as Bloodborne Pathogens, EpiPen use, CPR, AED certification, and suicide prevention.

Contribute to emergency preparedness planning and response efforts as part of the campus safety team.

Participate in the assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse in accordance with legal requirements.

Provide medical support during off-campus or overnight school trips as assigned by the Director of Health Services.

Assist with administrative or clinical support in other campus clinics as needed.
