Position Summary

The Maintenance & Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the hotel's engineering and maintenance department. This role ensures the property is maintained in a safe, functional, and brand-compliant condition while delivering a high-quality guest experience. The position manages preventative maintenance programs, life safety systems, capital projects, and team performance.

Essential Functions

Property Maintenance & Operations

Oversee all building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and kitchen equipment

Ensure guest rooms, public areas, meeting space, exterior grounds, and back-of-house areas are properly maintained

Respond promptly to maintenance requests and guest service calls

Maintain hotel pool, spa, and water systems (if applicable) in compliance with health regulations

Ensure all work meets Hilton brand standards

Preventative Maintenance

Develop and execute a comprehensive preventative maintenance program

Maintain accurate maintenance logs, equipment records, and work orders

Schedule routine inspections of rooms and public areas

Monitor and maintain life safety systems (fire alarm, sprinkler, emergency lighting, elevators)

Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and building codes

Maintain OSHA, MSDS, and lockout/tagout procedures

Lead safety training and ensure a safe working environment

Team Leadership

Supervise, train, and schedule engineering/maintenance staff

Provide performance coaching, evaluations, and disciplinary action when necessary

Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and service

Budgeting & Inventory

Prepare and manage the department budget

Control costs related to labor, parts, and outside vendors

Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts

Obtain bids and oversee contractors for major repairs and capital projects

Vendor & Project Management

Coordinate with external contractors and service providers

Oversee renovations, room refresh projects, and equipment replacements

Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade certification preferred

Minimum 3--5 years of hotel engineering or building maintenance experience

Previous supervisory or management experience required

Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems

CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification preferred (if property has a pool)

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals

Proficiency with maintenance management systems (HotSOS, SynergyMMS, or similar) preferred

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces

Must be available for on-call, weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
