Steer Clear Driver's Ed is looking for a responsible, patient, and safety-minded individual to fill a part-time instructor and tester role. This role involves both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel driver training and testing for Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. This is NOT a government job, we operate under TNDOSHS authority within the Driver Testing and Training Program as an independent, third-party driving school.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruct students using PowerPoint and other basic computer tools

Conduct in-car training and administer Department of Safety and Homeland Security road tests

Provide a calm, consistent presence during potentially stressful learning situations

Model safe, defensive driving practices at all times

Candidates must:

Demonstrate proficiency using technology such as a Laptop, MS Word, PowerPoint, Google Sheets or Excel, email, calendar scheduling, television

Be at least 21 years old

Hold a valid Tennessee Class D license with a for-hire endorsement

Have a high school diploma or GED

Maintain a clean driving record (no more than 2 serious moving violations in the last 2 years)

Demonstrate good moral character and safe driving habits

Be able to physically operate a motor vehicle and instruct others safely

Pass a written knowledge exam and road driving tests administered by the Department of Homeland Security within 30 days of employment

Submit a full set of fingerprints

Submit a clean TBI background check

Agree to random drug/alcohol testing

Complete and pass a physical examination with their doctor

Exhibit reliability, professionalism, and punctuality
