GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Responsible for coordinating the centralized records request process and advising State Bar staff on legal and policy matters related to the Public Information Act and requests by officers and directors. Advises on and coordinates records management and retention for the agency. Provides general legal assistance to the Legal Counsels Office and State Bar staff as needed. Reports to the Chief Legal Counsel.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Provides training, guidance, and legal support to State Bar staff in matters related to the Public Information Act (PIA).

Communicates with requestors of public information in meetings and in writing.

Serves as the point of contact for requestors of public information and other records requests.

Processes PIA requests and referrals to the Attorney Generals Office.

Communicates with officers and directors requesting State Bar records.

Works closely with the Executive Director, legal staff, and other agency staff concerning the processing of requests for information.

Advises on and coordinates records management and retention for the agency.

Performs administrative tasks as needed, including document review, redaction, and preparation in response to PIA requests.

Advises staff on legal matters, including the interpretation and application of agency regulations, and state and federal laws.

Analyzes complex legal matters and performs extensive legal research.
