The Transportation Dispatcher schedules and assigns drivers for pickup and return of students, prepares and maintains transportation records and assists the transportation managers as needed. Scheduled work hours include early morning and possible call back to cover emergency situations. The dispatcher drives school buses when needed. The list of essential functions in this job description is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as determined by an appropriate administrator and Human Resources. Dispatch all buses. Assign trips and substitutes as needed, assuring a consistent application of seniority rules in assignments. Assign and schedule field trips and/or athletic trips.

Answer telephone and monitor/operate two-way radio.

Direct drivers in the procedures for special trip driving.

Work closely with router in assuring accurate route information including stops and student lists. Responsible for master route book.

Coordinate the daily maintenance status of buses, assign spare buses as required.

Using computer software, assist with maintaining route changes and dispatching of the bus fleet to achieve maximum efficiency, safety, and economy. Conduct driver briefings on special requirements, road conditions, routing and all outof-the-ordinary conditions.

Provide busing information upon request to parents, staff, and students, and advise building officials of route changes, bus changes, late arrivals and departures, etc. Maintain calm and positive demeanor in interactions with others.

Accept bus trouble calls and coordinate mechanics, replacement buses, drivers, etc. to achieve maximum efficiency, safety, and economy. Monitor and verify extra time and trip sheets for payroll process.

Contact emergency services if needed and communicate to management staff on duty. Arrange for emergency transportation in the event of an accident or breakdown. Communicate equipment needs with mechanics. Drive school bus when necessary and/or provide back-up relief in emergencies; performs routing duties as needed. Maintain regular attendance.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community members. Comply with all Board policies, rules, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.

Serves as member of the transportation team of the district; performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned.
